Following in its predecessor’s footsteps, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 released a painfully brief teaser today showcasing what could show up in the fourth film.
It appears Paramount has found its sweet spot when it comes to promoting the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise. It continues to release extremely short teaser trailers. In a teaser that dropped today, Paramount has confirmed that the next entry in the Blue Blur’s filmography will be titled Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Not only does the brief footage reveal the new title, but Paramount has also included hints about the plot, and the official cast list reveals that franchise favourites are confirmed to return. The new trailer can be seen below.
The chaos emeralds are a big deal in the video game franchise, appearing in every mainline Sonic the Hedgehog title starting with the first game released for the SEGA Genesis in 1991. They started as stage collectibles (with only six: yellow, pink, blue, green, red, and light gray) that allowed fans to unlock the best ending and have become more important with each subsequent launch.

They’ve now evolved into a major plot point in the video games, often acting as sources of serious power and giving Sonic the ability to become Super Sonic, and the film franchise appears to be following suit. The Chaos Emeralds are heavily featured in the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 teaser, with returning character reflections shown on the surface of the emeralds, alongside the haunting silhouette of Metal Sonic after appearing as a major plot point in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will have returning favourites and newcomers joining the cast. Jim Carrey is returning as Robotnik, with Ben Schwartz, Kristen Bell, Idris Elba, Keanu Reeves, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter and Ben Kingsley reprising their roles. In Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Matt Berry, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Lee Majdoub, Nick Offerman and Richard Ayoade have been confirmed in currently undisclosed roles.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 drops into theatres on March 19, 2027.
