Video footage spoiling the plot of Sony and Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II was released on YouTube earlier this week.
As we previously reported, the video appeared to come from a disgruntled developer. The YouTube account leaked several videos of the highly anticipated sequel which mirrored a 4Chan leak from earlier this month.
However, after investigating the leaks, Sony has confirmed that the people responsible for leaking the game footage and plot spoilers are not affiliated with Naughty Dog or Sony themselves. According to GameRant, Sony has not released any information on the leakers as the investigation is ongoing. As such, we do not yet know what repercussions the leakers will face nor do we know what steps Sony will take to prevent similar leaks in the future.
Naughty Dog released a statement about the leaks assuring fans that their playthrough of The Last of Us Part II will be a worthwhile experience despite the leaks, whether players have seen the spoilers or not.
Amid the leaks and subsequent investigations, Sony has confirmed a new release date for The Last of Us Part II. After delaying the game due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, Sony will be releasing the sequel on June 19, 2020. So the game will be in fans’ hands sooner than expected.
The Last of Us Part II will release on June 19, 2020 exclusively on PS4.
