Until Dawn Movie Moves to Post-Production as Filming Wraps on the Horror Adaptation

Peter Stormare to Reprise Role

Sony's Until Dawn Film Wraps As Remake Game Is Released

Sony Pictures’ upcoming Until Dawn film adaptation has officially wrapped with a new behind-the-scenes photo post on Instagram.

Last week, the release of the Until Dawn Remake game was accompanied by a production update on its film adaptation. David F. Sandberg, the director of the Until Dawn film, confirmed on Instagram that production has officially finished. The filmmaker marked the wrap with a behind-the-scenes photo of a clapboard in front of a bloody, cracked mirror.

Sandberg has directed many horror genre films in the past but took a break to film the last two Shazam! Films. This project marks his return to horror films and reunites him with screenwriter Gary Dauberman. Both previously collaborated on The Conjuring spin-off movie Annabelle: Creation. This film is based on the Supermassive Games’ popular-hit interactive horror video game of the same name.

The Until Dawn film will bring back Peter Stormare as the creepy psychiatrist Dr. Allan J. Hill, who was the player’s guide throughout the game. Stormare provided the voice and motion capture for the character in the game and will reprise this role in the live-action remake. The original voice cast for the video games, including Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere, Nichole Sakura, Noah Fleiss, Jordan Fisher, Brett Dalton, and Meaghan Martin, will not be returning.

The new cast will consist of Ella Rubin (The Girl from Plainville), Michael Cimino (Love, Victor), Odessa A’zion (Hellraiser), Ji-young Yoo (Expats), Maia Mitchell (The Fosters), and Belmont Cameli (Saved by the Bell). The live-action remake is produced by Dauberman, Sandberg, Lotta Losten, Roy Lee, Asad Qizilbash, and Carter Swan. Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions produced it.

The upcoming adaptation is described as “an R-rated and terrifying love letter to the horror genre, centring on an ensemble cast.” The original video game story focused on eight friends who reunite in a remote mountain lodge after two of their friends have gone missing. They quickly learn that a mysterious killer is trying to hunt them down. The game gained great recognition for its ability to have players control each character and try to keep them alive to unfold the full story.

The Until Dawn prequel The Inpatient in 2018 set up a chain of events that led to more story-choice games for the studio, like the 2022 sequel The Quarry, along with creating the Dark Pictures Anthology game series. These games were known to bring on movie stars to do the voice and motion capture for their respective characters. The current remake of the Until Dawn game has been out for a couple of days with mixed reviews. Many reviewers noted it improved the graphics and has redone opening and ending scenes, with one teasing a direct sequel.

Sadly, the Until Dawn film still has no official release date. But fans can expect one soon, as the film moves into post-production.
