Spike Chunsoft Unveils Fire Pro Wrestling World and More at GDC 2017 1

There has been a lot of interesting stuff coming out of 2017’s Game Developer Contest. From early concepts showing Breath of the Wild as a modern day Zelda, to No Man’s Sky receiving the innovation award with no one to accept it, to the revival of a much beloved Japanese wrestling game.

Spike Chunsoft made their first ever appearance at this year’s GDC, and with it, they brought announcements for PC releases of Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony (July 23 and September 26 respectively), as well as an announcement for a new game from Danganronpa director and writer Kotaro Uchikoshi codenamed Psync.

However, that’s not all they brought to the show. Spike Chunsoft announced the newest instalment in the Fire Pro Wrestling franchise: Fire Pro Wrestling World after a 10-year hiatus. The game is said to offer unlimited customization for matches and even characters, from over a thousand devastating moves and even more body parts to battle for custom championship belts. Players can personalize the ring, mat logos and even the referee.

President & CEO for Spike Chunsoft Mitsutoshi Sakurai expressed excitement at GDC, saying, “We are thrilled by the overwhelmingly positive response that our titles have enjoyed in the west, and are honoured by the reception from the media about our upcoming portfolio of games,”

He added, “The exciting return of Fire Pro Wrestling and 428, along with games from the Danganronpa series, The Nonary Games collection and Project Psync are just the beginning. We’re dedicated to localizing even more games in the future and want to hear what fans want next!”

Fire Pro Wrestling is a long-running professional wrestling video game series originating from Japan, started in 1989 by Human Entertainment and continued by Spike in 2000. The series is distinguished by its grappling system, which is primarily based on timed button presses and strategy.

Fire Pro Wrestling World will be released on Steam early access in Q2 2017.
