Alongside a free update for Splatoon 3, Nintendo announced the first-ever Splatoon spinoff game, Splatoon Raiders, coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo has surprisingly launched a video called “Research Report from Squid Research Lab” today, which has also done a secondary job of revealing the next Splatoon title. Instead of opting for another numbered entry in the series, the devs at Nintendo have introduced the first-ever spinoff title in the Splatoon universe with Splatoon Raiders. In the new title, players will take on the role of mechanic, and go on an adventure in the mysterious Spirhalite Islands alongside the troupe previously introduced in Splatoon 3, the Deep Cut trio. The Research Report showing Splatoon Raiders in action can be seen below.
In the video, the Deep Cut trio consisting of Shiver, Frye, and Big Man can be seen on their adventure to the mysterious Spirhalite Island. While the Splatoon Raiders reveal trailer doesn’t show too much regarding gameplay or what the Spirhalite Islands look like up close, it appears players will be exploring this set of islands while chasing after a yellow beam shot into the sky like a bat signal within the confines of a tornado or water cyclone.

The teaser trailer pretty much stopped there, at a tease. While the excitement of a new Splatoon title is tenable, the trailer teased that research is still in progress so it may be some time before fans are given a release window. On top of the exciting Splatoon Raiders teaser, a free update for Splatoon 3 is coming to Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on June 12. The update features the Splatlands collection, consisting of new weapons from Barazushi and Emberz. Based on previous weapon releases, these new additions have fresh looks with different sub and special weapons. There are a total of 30 new weapon kits in this collection.
Included with the update, today’s trailer also confirmed that Splatoon 3 players will be able to play together across both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. But regarding Splatoon Raiders, fans will have to wait a bit longer for more information on the upcoming spinoff.
