SteelSeries Changes the Game With Multi-Genre Mouse, Rival 5

SteelSeries has revealed their latest gaming mouse, the Rival 5—engineered for players of multiple games across multiple genres.

Inspired by the chameleon’s ability to change its colours to fit its environment, the Rival 5 is meant to deliver the same potent performance you need between all your favourite games—whether they be FPS, MOBA, Battle Royale, or anything in between. Nine programmable buttons enable this, including a 5-button quick action sidepanel with a toggle switch.

Movements are tracked with pixel-perfect precision thanks to Steelseries’ TrueMove Air Sensor. With 18,000 CPI, 400 IPS, 40G acceleration and tilt tracking, the Rival 5 can achieve custom 1:1 tracking. A Super Mesh Cable, featuring microfiber mesh cuts down on drag. It also has durability to match, rated for 80 million clicks with its next-gen Golden Micro IP54 switches and upgraded protection from dust and water.

All of this tech is packed into the lightest frame in its class, weighing in at 85g and outdoing competition like the G502 by 30%. The Rival 5 has a universal ergonomic design and suits any hand size or grip style, allowing for easy access to the side panel’s programmable buttons.

Of course, the buttons aren’t the only customizable aspect, and there are plenty of ways to tailor the Rival 5 to your desk’s aesthetic as well. Ten zones of PrismSync Lighting allow access to 16.8 colours to elevate your RGB game. Like a chameleon, match the colour scheme of your other desktop peripherals, or watch them change in response to in-game cues. Program all of this through SteelSeries’ desktop engine software, and coordinate with GameSense-compatible apps like Discord for chat notifications, in-game events, and other uses.

The Rival 5 is available now for $79.99 CAD through SteelSeries’ website. The Rival series has historically received glowing scores from CGM, like the Rival 650, “a fantastic wireless mouse for enthusiast users.”
