On Wednesday, it was revealed that the Netflix Original, Stranger Things, has received an updated TV-MA rating before their series finale Season 5 starts up.
Stranger Things, Netflix’s longest-running original series, has officially received a TV-MA rating, as reported by What’s on Netflix on Wednesday morning. What started as a show infused with mystery in the town of Hawkins, Indiana, has become a lot more violent and bloody over the years and Season 5 appears to up the ante just enough more for the show to fall out of its previous TV-14 rating and into the Netflix (and Television) equivalent of the R-Rating. TV-MA is as high as the TV parental guideline ratings go.

Stranger Things is no stranger to characters ‘not making it’ to the end. What started as a single-character death scene in 2016 with Barbara Holland (played by Shannon Purser), Stranger Things‘ past four seasons have seen many violent character deaths at the hands of the big bad villain Vecna and horrifying mirror-world imagery of the supernatural realm the main cast calls the Upside Down. Netflix has already confirmed that Season 5 will take place only four years after the events of the first season have transpired. The previously released episode title teaser can be seen below, and it confirms Season 5 only has eight episodes like most of the other seasons.
Netflix’s teaser of Season 5 was posted on Stranger Things day, November 6, and the cast showed a making of video which didn’t show anything regarding the upcoming season, but it did reveal how the cast feels about the show after its nearly 10-year run in the small teaser. Back in 2022, what fans referred to as the Byer’s House where characters Will, Jonathan, and Joyce (Winona Ryder) live was listed for sale, and since then it has been sold in November 2022. So although this may be the last TV-MA-rated season, the location where it all started with Christmas lights and an alphabet on the wall will likely not be featured.
Stranger Things season 5 premieres at a TBD date in 2025.
