A new trailer has been released for the upcoming Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble title by SEGA, and the trailer goes fast with Sonic the Hedgehog heroes ahead of release.
Fans haven’t received a genuinely new (non-re-release) entry in the SEGA Super Monkey Ball series for a home console since the Wii’s 2010 release, Step & Roll. This month, the launch of the upcoming Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble SEGA aims to right the ship with a brand new adventure, fully animated cutscenes, and now they’ve unveiled the return of the Blue Blur himself, Sonic the Hedgehog, to the speed lanes of Monkey Ball.
The selection of four Sonic characters will be included in the newly announced “SEGA Pass DLC” which will come included with the Digital Deluxe Edition. A trailer has also been revealed, and it can be seen below.
The new SEGA Pass DLC is billed as including the Sonic Superstars: Sonic, Tails, Amy Rose, and Knuckles, but what’s more interesting is what’s NOT announced. SEGA has said “two additional playable characters – from iconic SEGA franchises” will also be included in the Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble DLC pass.

SEGA recently spilled the beans regarding its future plans way back at The Game Awards 2023 where they’ve said they are making new entries in dormant franchises including Crazy Taxi. While Sonic has made the jump from Green Hill Zone to the sky ramps of Monkey Ball, it could be possible fans could experience Monkey Ball from the Taxi itself, or even Beat from Jet Set Radio could return to grace the inner sphere of Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble when it launches (considering the character was previously unlockable in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz).
Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble is scheduled to launch on June 25 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
