While the 2022 Video Game Awards are a showcase of the incredible talent that goes into making video games, it’s also one of the biggest nights for new game announcements.

This year several unique and interesting-looking games debuted at the Video Game Awards, starting with the pre-show that saw smaller but exciting reveals. The first on the list was

Hellboy: Web of Wyrd

Probably one of the most exciting announcements from the 2022 Video Game Awards, Hellboy hasn’t had a game since Hellboy: The Science of Evil on the PS3 back in 2008—although that was more an adaptation of the 2004 film from Guillermo Del Toro. Hellboy: Web of Wyrd looks incredibly stylized, with a cell-shaded art style that is more in line with the Hellboy comics, and Dark Souls-style tight, brawler combat.

Post Trauma

Post Trauma caught my eye immediately for its incredible style and looking very reminiscent of Silent Hill 4: The Room and even channelling some P.T vibes. This game looks like a seriously solid entry into the horror genre, likely largely inspired by Japanese horror, and any game where you can play as an chubby old guy gets our seal of approval.

Hades II

The next game from Supergiant Games, and the first sequel in their roster, Hades II looks to continue on the solid gameplay and incredible style of its predecessor. Taking place some time after the first, this game has players taking on the role of Melinoë, daughter of Hades as she fights to free the Titan Chronos from his bonds.

Star Wars: Jedi Survivor

The sequel to the massively successful Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, Star Wars: Jedi Survivor looks to be faster, more action-packed and for more deep—with a far more intense story, mode Force powers, and way more lightsaber abilities. Probably most exciting was the inclusion of a Kylo Ren-style broad-saber

DS2

Easily the highlight of the 2022 Video Game Awards, the critically acclaimed, critically divisive Death Stranding is getting a sequel from Kojima Studios. Players will supposedly pick up as Sam Bridges—played again by Norman Reedus—after the events of the first game. The game will also look to expand more greatly on the character of Fragile—who is once again being played by Léa Seydoux.
