The skateboarding franchise isn’t quite as dead as we were told.

Activision cancelled Tony Hawk back when they cancelled Guitar Hero, but the skateboarding franchise appears to be scheduled for a return. During an interview with PixelatedGeek, pro-skater celebrity Tony Hawk revealed that new games in the Tony Hawk series are already being made, and may even be coming as soon as next year.

“We’re going to do something probably for next year, but I can’t give too much away,” said Hawk.

The Tony Hawk series was once one of the most bankable properties in gaming, but the last console generation hasn’t been kind to the franchise and the new skateboard peripheral introduced in Tony Hawk: Ride and Tony Hawk: Shred didn’t exactly work as well as developers had hoped. Hopefully, whatever they try next will resonate better with critics and consumers.
