Treyarch Unveils New Mode “Free Run” for Black Ops 3

Today developer Treyarch continued their tradition of revealing new additions to their latest game in the series, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, via their “Black Ops Friday’s” YouTube broadcast.

The new mode is called Free Run and it is unsurprisingly reminiscent to Titanfall. It is essentially a time trial course full of challenges that task players to use the games new movement abilities. The courses over time will become more and more difficult to a point of punishment. This heart-wrenching setting will help gamers sharpen their skills for competitive multiplayer and will be available right away, no unlocking needed. Player’s times in Free Run will be showcased on leaderboards to see how your record stacks up to other players.

Dan Bunting, the Game director for Black Ops 3 outlined the origin of the new mode in the livestream. According to Bunting, it was simply a development tool at first used to help the developers create the maps to benefit the movement system. Then after a period of time it turned into this course that pushes players to grasp more peculiar maneuvers as players progress through it. Weapon challenges have also been added to the mode just so players can get used to concept even sooner.

Mark Lumia, Studio Head at Treyarch, also had some good news for gamers that have played previous versions of the “Black Ops” series.

Gamers will have some bragging rights displayed beside their username in chat rooms to notify fans for their love for the series. Be that a Level 10 player to a hardened prestige player, the team will make sure you are noticed going into Black Ops 3. Another bonus for players that reached level 31, they will receive some nifty reticules varying from their preferred weapon choice. Prestige players will receive a “badge of honour” as they called it on their weapons with a new camo skin.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will debut in just few short weeks on November 6, 2015 on PlayStation3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
