Vampire Survivors Gets Surprise "Darkasoo" Update With a New Stage, New Relic, and More

Vampire Survivors has received a surprise new free update overnight, dubbed the “Darkasso Update” by developer poncle.

A game that has already seen a massive amount of post-launch additions simply keeps going, with Darkasso bringing a wealth of content, including a brand-new stage called Room 1665. Via a press release, the stage is described as a “hellish meat dimension created by the spite of the souls that fell in the bronze zone.” So, definitely a good time.

Room 1665 has 15 floors for players to fight through, and the update also introduces the Darkanas feature, a set of dark arcana that adds new modifiers to the game, like losing health and generating exploding projects. There are five different darkanas to unlock.

On top of all that, there are two new character skins, Unblinded Imelda and Retired Poe, nine new achievements, and additional “secrets” to uncover.

The Darkasso update is out now on all platforms and will be available on the PS5 and PS4 versions when they launch at the end of the month.

Vampire Survivors first launched in 2022 and quickly took the gaming community by storm with its engrossing and surprisingly deep bullet hell gameplay. It won two Baftas that year, including Best Game, and has an “Overwhelmingly Positive” score on Steam with an incredible 220,000 reviews.

The game was created by solo developer Luca Galante, based in London, but the overwhelming success has transformed poncle into a sizable team of over 20 programmers, designers, and artists. In April 2023, it was announced that a Vampire Survivors animated TV series was being produced as Story Kitchen, the studio founded by John Wick writer/director Derek Kolstad.

Vampire Survivors is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, and PC. The game comes to PS4 and PS5 on August 29.
