After three years in development, the Wonder Woman game has been canceled as Warner Bros. Games shuts down key studios.
Warner Bros. Games has announced it will be pulling the plug on Wonder Woman, despite the game being in development for over three years, with many fans eager for its release. Alongside the cancellation of the title, the studio behind the game, Monolith Productions, along with Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games San Diego, is being shut down following Warner Bros. Discovery’s plan to make cutbacks.

This is shocking news following the announcement of MultiVersus shutting down last month, as it’s now confirmed that the developers behind the game, Player First Games, will be following suit. With the unfortunate news, a Warner Bros. Games spokesperson shared with Variety, “As difficult as today is, we remain focused on and excited about getting back to producing high-quality games for our passionate fans, developed by our world-class studios, and getting our games business back to profitability and growth in 2025 and beyond.”
When expanding on the reasons behind the game studios shutting down and the cancellation of Wonder Woman, Warner Bros. Games told Kotaku, “We have had to make some very difficult decisions to structure our development studios and investments around building the best games possible with our key franchises — Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC and Game of Thrones. After careful consideration, we are closing three of our development studios — Monolith Productions, Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. This is a strategic change in direction and not a reflection of these teams or the talent within them.”
In regard to Monolith Productions and the Wonder Woman title, Warner Bros. Games explained that they couldn’t deliver the highest quality possible for the iconic superhero following the cutbacks. Despite being a tough decision, Warner Bros. Games praised Monolith’s past work for providing fans with epic experiences.
For those unaware of Monolith Productions’ past work, the studio is primarily known for developing Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War, based on the Lord of the Rings franchise.
It’s quite an unfortunate circumstance for many developers affected and for gamers who were looking forward to the Wonder Woman game. As of now, it leaves many questioning Warner Bros. Games’ future.
