FX has recently announced that it will turn podcast hit Welcome to Night Vale into a TV show.
Welcome to Night Vale is a popular-narrative-driven podcast that has a large loyal following, therefore catching FX and Sony’s attention. Turning a Podcast into a TV series is not an entirely new thing, as it has been done by Amazon with the podcast Lore which debuted with mixed reviews.
Unlike the previously mentioned Lore, Welcome to Night Vale has an upper-hand going into this adaption, as it has already been adapted before from books to the now known podcast. The series originally launched as the script books Mostly Void, Partially Stars and The Great Glowing Coils of the Universe.
To those unfamiliar with Welcome to Night Vale, it is a very unique podcast that is told from the perspective of a radio show transmitted through the fictional town of Night Vale. During the podcast the radio reports act much like our current news, reporting on multiple scenarios ranging from the weather to strange events that happen within the town of Night Vale. The podcast’s ability to create an entirely different universe to which listeners can feel attached is what lead the show to gain popularity, resulting in the creation of a dedicated Welcome to Night Vale TV show.
It is unknown as to who will be cast on the TV series or when it will debut, but as of now all that viewers of the Podcast can do is await with tempered expectations.
