Blizzard has announced that World of Warcraft will kick off its 20th anniversary with the first content update for The War Within, going live on October 22, 2024.
With World of Warcraft approaching its 20th anniversary on November 23, players will have many in-game activities to celebrate two decades of adventures, with numerous legendary rewards to earn. Going live on October 22, World of Warcraft will receive its first content update for The War Within. With the 11.0.5 content update, players can look forward to new classic raids, timewalking, and world bosses.

The first activity that players can look forward to in World of Warcraft: The War Within content update is the new classic raid, Blackrock Depths. The classic-era dungeon has been reimagined as a 10-15 player, 8-boss raid, available in LFR with options to play in Normal and Heroic difficulties.
For veteran World of Warcraft players, there will be new Timewalking dungeons featuring many classic instances, available in the LFD group finder and officially entering the rotation beyond the anniversary event. The classic maps to be included are:
- Dreadmines (original classic version)
- Dire Maul (east and west wings)
- Stratholmes (living and undead wings)
But that isn’t the only feature that veteran World of Warcraft players can look forward to, as there will be additional raid bosses making a return with updated rewards in addition to the previous anniversary raid bosses. The raid bosses returning are Sha of Anger from Mist of Pandaria, and Archavon the Stonewatcher from Wrath of the Lich King.

Don’t think there won’t be rewards for your dedication, as World of Warcraft players will have the chance to earn many legendary items. The rewards include new mounts, pets, and a classic transmog set, all available through a new currency called Bronze Celebration Tokens. In addition to these rewards, modern versions of Tier 2 armour sets can be purchased with Bronze Celebration Tokens, available for all classes—including new sets created for classes that were not available during the classic Tier 2 era.
Lastly, content update 11.0.5, The War Within, will bring additional changes and features for players to enjoy, such as a class balance update, a new quest, and the expansion of the Dracthyr race into six new combat classes, including rogue, mage, and priest!
