Dreo 2-in1 Tower Heater Fan MC706

Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

The Dreo MC706 2-in-1 Tower Fan & Heater is the newest device in the company’s MutliComfort Series. Equipped with Dreo’s auto-shift PTC Technology that allows for an almost instantaneous shift from cooling to heating, the MC706 aims to offer an all-in-one solution for room heating and cooling. A host of quality-of-life features help reinforce this goal, propelling the MC706 to the front of the class regarding features and capabilities.

Standing 42.46” high the MC706 fits well in any corner of a room and with a weight of 13lbs it stands fairly sturdy. Though due to the rotating design of the system if bumped the fan will sway back and forth slightly. Thankfully it doesn’t impact the rotation of the fan and levels itself out fairly quickly. This is due to the 12” base, which not only keeps the fan balanced but also provides the needed distance around the fan for airflow when the MC706 is tucked tight to a wall or in a corner.

The front top panel provides a very easy-to-read display with touch controls located on the top of the fan. For those wanting control while across the room, the MC706 comes with a small battery-operated remote controller. It offers all the same control as the fan and easily covers a distance of over 50’ during testing.

“The external design of the MC706 Dreo 2-in-1 Tower Heater Fan is well-thought-out and provides a fairly slim solution to fit in most size rooms.”

A small alcove located on the back of the fan provides an easy grip point for moving the MC706 if needed and doubles as an easy storage solution for the remote when not in use. The external design of the MC706 Dreo 2-in-1 Tower Heater Fan is well-thought-out and provides a fairly slim solution to fit in most size rooms. Dreo offers three colours to choose from as well, with black and white being options on top of the silver provided for the review.

While the design is reminiscent of most tower fans, it’s the internal functionality that helps the Dreo 2-in1 Tower Heater Fan MC706 stand out. Featuring what Dreo refers to as auto-shift technology, the MC706 seamlessly swaps from cooling to heating almost instantaneously. A swivel system located in the central chamber of the fan shifts the heating coil into and out of the centre, allowing for better cooling provided by the larger airflow area provided.

When heating is required the system simply slides the heating coil in place and fires up within a couple of seconds. Shifting back to cooling requires a 15-second shift time to allow for quick cooling and movement of the heating coil. Once shifted out of the way, the MC706 starts the cooling mode again. The Dreo 2-in1 Tower Heater Fan MC706’s whole system works incredibly well and seamlessly shifts from cooling to heating and back again without hesitation.

The heating provided by Dreo’s MC706 leverages its hyperamic technology and provides impressive heat regulation. This is achieved thanks to the positive-temperature coefficient heating element installed at the center of the heating coil. Also known as a self-regulating heater system, the MC706 can provide impressive precise heating control thanks to a combination of the PTC element and thermal fins located within the fan.

Essentially the PTC element can auto-adjust the amount of heat being generated based on the measured temperature. This differs from a traditional element that produces the same amount of heat regardless of the temperature. The result is a heating experience that is less on/off and more consistently heated. This was quite true during testing as the MC706 did an excellent job at self-regulating based on the preset temperature.

This allows for a set-and-forget heating experience that is further reinforced by the inclusion of a built-in timer that can be set for up to 12 hours. This coupled with up to 120° fan rotation and heating temperature presets of 95℉ leaves you with an impressive heating unit capable of heating most rooms in a standard house.

More impressive still is the cooling portion of the MC706. Thanks to the aforementioned auto-shift technology, when not heating the element is shifted out of the way, allowing for more airflow through the fan system. The result is a fan that can push air through the centre chamber at 29.2 ft/s at full speed. Between this system and the 120° fan rotation, the MC706 does an incredible job circulating air in a room.

The Dreo MC706 is also quite quiet. While its max fan speed is audible it never overwhelms the space with noise. Due to the efficiency of the system though, in testing, I never felt the need to push the system that aggressively and more times than not set it at about half speed which generated so little noise that I had to walk over to the system to confirm it was running.

“The Dreo 2-in1 Tower Heater Fan MC706’s whole system works incredibly well and seamlessly shifts from cooling to heating and back again without hesitation.”

While the MC706 can leverage up to 1500W of energy for quick heating, it also comes equipped with an eco-mode that dramatically lowers the power requirements for the system. Obviously, this will result in longer heating times but is a great option for those looking for an economical electrical heating solution.

Another area that I am impressed with is the safety features Dreo has included in the MC706. While the bumping and residual shaking of the unit is something I am slightly concerned about (as mentioned above) Dreo has installed a 45° tilt sensor that will automatically shut off the system if triggered. Additionally, the child lock function, cool touch safety design and overheat protection offer peace of mind when using the MC706. For families with small children, this especially attention to safety is very appreciated.

The Dreo MC706 2-in-1 Tower Fan & Heater is an excellent piece of home technology that offers impressive heating and cooling and some nice quality-of-life features. The auto-shift and hyperamics technologies help elevate the MC706 above many similar products in its price range making it the gold standard for multi-comfort systems. Priced at $169.99 the Dreo MC706 2-in-1 Tower Fan & Heater is an excellent solution for heating and cooling any room in your house.
