I am a sucker for a good PC case, loving to show off all the components inside in style, which is one reason I was so interested in testing out the HYTE Y70 PC case. Released in early 2024, the Y70 aims to balance aesthetics with functionality, offering a dual-chamber design that caters to both seasoned builders and newcomers alike. Building on the success of its predecessor, the HYTE Y60, the Y70 brings notable improvements while maintaining the signature style that has made HYTE a popular name in the PC hardware space.
Unboxing the HYTE Y70, I was excited by the overall look of the case, even before installing the new build. With three tempered glass panels—two of which are removable—the case offers a panoramic view of your build, making it perfect for those who love to showcase their hardware (like yours truly). The design is both modern and functional, with clean lines and subtle branding that doesn’t overwhelm the overall aesthetic. The geometric flow between panels adds a refined touch, and HYTE has clearly paid attention to detail.

At 470 x 320 x 470 mm, it’s slightly larger than the Y60, with a total volume of 70.7 litres. This extra space allows for better compatibility with larger components, including four-slot GPUs—a significant upgrade from the Y60’s three-slot limit. This makes it an ideal choice for those looking to house high-end graphics cards like the NVIDIA RTX 4080, RTX 4090, or new GPUs rumoured to be coming to market after CES 2025.
“The HYTE Y70 offers plenty of options for cooling, giving you a range of ways to customize your new build.”
The case also comes with a PCIe 4.0 x16 riser cable included, which is a nice touch considering its price point. This allows users to mount their GPU vertically, further enhancing the visual appeal of the build. It all works together to make for a striking PC and brings enough in terms of build quality that I was impressed, even before diving in and installing a new PC into the case.
I also loved how easy the case was to open, with everything just working as intended—no struggles or obtuse mechanisms. The panels snap into place securely without needing screws—a feature some may appreciate for its convenience—though others might prefer having thumb screws for added security during transport. The materials used throughout feel premium, with rubber grommets covering cable cutouts and metal drive sleds adding durability to internal components.

The HYTE Y70 offers plenty of options for cooling, giving you a range of ways to customize your new build. The case can accommodate up to ten fans in total—three on the bottom, three on the side, two on top, and one at the rear—allowing for excellent airflow potential. It also supports radiators up to 360mm on both the side and top mounts, making it suitable for custom water-cooling loops or high-performance all-in-one (AIO) coolers.
However, considering the $220 price tag, I was a little shocked to see the case comes with no pre-installed fans. This means users will need to budget extra for fans if they want optimal cooling performance out of the box. While not a major issue—since it gives users the option to buy fans that suit their needs—it is a bit strange considering the price and how solid the rest of the case feels.
Even with the small gripe I have about the fans, the overall feel of the case and how well it works to keep your new PC build cool cannot be overstated. Thanks to its vertical GPU mount and spacious interior layout, graphics cards benefit from direct airflow when using bottom-mounted fans. Getting everything in place was relatively easy, and I had no issues ensuring everything was kept cool while in use. The ability to add fans in numerous configurations made it easy to set up the case the way I needed, but there are plenty of other options depending on your needs.

As much as I enjoy building new PCs, I absolutely hate cable management, so I was excited to see how the HYTE Y70 made this tedious task as easy as possible. The dual-chamber layout provides ample space behind the motherboard tray for routing cables cleanly out of sight. Pre-installed Velcro straps further assist in keeping everything organized without needing additional tools or accessories.
The larger cutouts below the motherboard make it easier to route front I/O cables compared to older models like the Y60. This small but significant improvement enhances usability during assembly—a welcome change for anyone who has struggled with cramped cable routing in other mid-tower cases.
The Y70 includes two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, alongside one USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port and a combo audio jack. While this selection covers most modern peripherals’ needs adequately enough for everyday use cases, such as gaming headsets or external drives, it would have been nice if there were additional USB-C ports, given how many devices now rely on this standard exclusively. Granted, this is pretty standard for modern cases, but it would have been nice to see HYTE expand the options for a case in this price range.

Storage is another aspect where HYTE has made some compromises in favour of aesthetics over function—or at least that’s how it feels based on the available drive bays within such a large chassis footprint. The Y70 only includes two 3.5-inch drive sleds (which can alternatively fit four 2.5-inch SSDs), limiting traditional hard disk storage capacity compared to alternative mid-tower cases in a similar range.
“The HYTE Y70 strikes an impressive balance between form and function…”
While many users may not need more than two hard drives, largely due to SSD adoption rates skyrocketing lately, it still feels like wasted potential given how much empty space remains inside once all components are properly installed. If you’re someone who relies heavily on local storage solutions beyond just NVMe drives—whether due to large media libraries or frequent backups—you might find yourself wishing there were more options available. As much as it feels like it should be, the HYTE Y70, sadly, is not the best option for your new home server—you will quickly run into space limitations.
Even with these minor issues, this is a case that delivers where it matters most. The HYTE Y70 strikes an impressive balance between form and function—offering stunning visuals through its triple tempered-glass design while providing enough flexibility under the hood, so builders can create powerful systems tailored specifically to their needs, whether focused primarily on gaming performance or creative workflows involving intensive rendering tasks.

The HYTE Y70 is truly a striking case, one that feels ready for any gaming build you can throw at it. With plenty of options and space to express your PC any way you want, it is a case that delivers where it matters most. For those willing to invest a little extra upfront, knowing they’ll receive top-tier build quality alongside ample customization opportunities down the line, the HYTE Y70 offers plenty of value despite the higher-than-average asking price compared to alternatives currently available on the market today, making it a worthy contender for anyone serious about building a high-end PC setup capable of handling anything thrown its way, no matter what the future holds.
