Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

The MSI MPG VELOX 300R AIRFLOW PZ case is part of the MPG performance gaming series, designed to provide gamers with the latest aesthetics and optimized design. The AIRFLOW PZ case is an impressive and versatile chassis constructed to host a wide range of PC components, regardless of size or dimension. With its attractive appearance and well-thought-out construction, there is much to like about the new MPG VELOX 300R AIRFLOW PZ case.

Out of the box, the MPG VELOX 300R AIRFLOW PZ is a sharp-looking case. The front panel features a perforated centre section with an angular aesthetic, resulting in a sleek and striking appearance. The side features a large glass panel for displaying components, while the back and right sides offer substantial additional venting for airflow. The underside is raised on four feet, providing ample space underneath for additional airflow to the PSU. Available in both white and black, the MPG VELOX 300R AIRFLOW PZ is a beautiful case.

Built to support EATX, ATX, Micro-ATX, Mini-ITX and back-connect ATX motherboards, the MPG VELOX 300R AIRFLOW PZ is ready for just about anything you want to install. Despite its flexible component support, the AIRFLOW PZ is fairly compact, measuring 485 x 235 x 518 mm.

Touted as a DIY case, the AIRFLOW PZ offers several quality-of-life design features that support this claim. For starters, the front fan bracket is designed to accommodate a wide range of fans and layouts, from 120 mm to 160 mm, providing you with a variety of options to work with.

The MPG VELOX 300R AIRFLOW PZ also includes a unique snap-and-lock PSU cover. Gone are the days of trying to jam your hands in and around the PSU chamber to connect a cable that was missed during power layout planning. With this cover, it is simple to access the PSU even after installation.

The AIRFLOW PZ also includes a built-in adjustable GPU holder that can slide up or down to accommodate a wide range of GPUs. Its design features, such as the removable PSU cover and adaptable fan bracket system, help elevate the MPG VELOX 300R AIRFLOW PZ case above many others in its size range.

Cooling on the MPG VELOX 300R AIRFLOW PZ case is well thought out and includes two preinstalled 160 mm ARGB dual-layer blade fans mounted to the front panel and a single 120 mm dual-layer blade fan for exhaust attached to the back of the case. While the case can handle a wide range of cooling solutions—up to three radiators or 13 fans—I found the included two 160 mm intakes and one 120 mm exhaust to work quite well.

This is largely due to the new dual-ring blades on the included fans. Each fan features an outer and inner ring of tightly packed, rigid blades that spin at differing RPMs, with the aim of creating a more focused airflow path that pushes air faster through the system. While the preset speeds of the fans worked well during testing, there is also a small toggle switch that allows for three fan speed settings if you want to either maximize cooling or reduce noise in your build.

In terms of performance, I found airflow and decibel levels to be impressive during testing. While the fans can generate significant airflow, they remain relatively quiet even under heavy load. Paired with the air cooler I used for testing, the system was silent during day-to-day operation. Even gaming did not result in a meaningful increase in decibel levels from the system fans.

The included fan setup also features built-in ARGB lighting. Each of the three included fans features its own lighting, which is connected to the included ARGB fan control board that supports up to four ARGB PWM fans. This controller provides hardware-level control over system lighting, offering 18 distinct lighting modes without the need for software installation. It is conveniently located along the top of the backplane and helps centralize cable runs during the build.

While all these features are impressive, one of the key aspects of any case is its functional build quality—how easily it can be assembled. The short answer here is: excellent. Recently, I have tended to favour dual-chamber, fishbowl-style cases. Partly, this is because I enjoy showcasing a well-built design, but also because these designs facilitate easier cable management. I have large hands, so the fewer cramped spaces I need to work in, the better.

MSI has excelled with the overall design of the MPG VELOX 300R AIRFLOW PZ as it relates to building. The removable PSU cover makes accessing power cables simple. Space for cable management is well-planned, with ample room for even the most disorganized cable runs. (If you fall into this category, welcome—we should get T-shirts.)

One particular pain point in any build is running those one or two 8-pin connectors from the PSU to the upper left of the motherboard. There is never enough room, and my fingers do not fit there. This is always a point I note when building in a new case. The AIRFLOW PZ handles it well, with extra space left explicitly for cable runs in that section of the case.

Routing cable throughout the AIRFLOW PZ is also straightforward and centralized. One area that particularly stood out as a helpful quality-of-life feature was the placement of the SSD and HDD mounts. Situated at the rear of the backplane, the SATA connectors to the drives and ARGB controller are streamlined and simple, saving the hassle of running awkward cables across the case.

Despite being a single-chamber case, there is an exceptional amount of room to work in the MPG VELOX 300R AIRFLOW PZ. Even when installing the AIO cooler (I installed one for testing but ultimately opted for an air cooler in the final build) and GPU, there was never a moment when the build felt cramped. Every compartment of the AIRFLOW PZ is easy to access and work with, making it a delight to build in.

The MPG VELOX 300R AIRFLOW PZ from MSI is a well-designed and well-built PC case. It provides several quality-of-life features for easy component installation, excellent cooling options and plenty of space to work—not to mention that it is a sleek-looking case. Priced at $149.99, the MPG VELOX 300R AIRFLOW PZ is a strong contender to consider for your next build.
