Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

The OneOdio Focus A6 Headphones are a pair of ANC, wireless headphones that aim to bring a premium listening experience to users at a budget-friendly price point. Featuring 40mm dynamic drivers and a high elasticity PET diaphragm, the Focus A6 swings above its weight class and hits on almost every front. With up to 75 hours of battery life and the latest Bluetooth 6 connection at the ready, the OneOdio Focus A6 headphones are ready to perform for the long run, no matter where you might find yourself.

Featuring an impressively lightweight design, these 240g headphones sport a plush earcup, adjustable metal band, and foldable hinges, making them ideal for travel or commuting. The right earcup houses the headphones’ controls with physical buttons, a welcome reprieve from the invisible touch sensor controls I’ve experienced on many modern headphones. Remembering which tap controls what has been a pain point, but thankfully, OneOdio has opted for more traditional button control, making volume, ANC and power selection simple to manage.

As for comfort, the OneOdio Focus A6 are incredibly comfortable to wear, even for an entire day of work. While they do get a bit warm on the ears after several hours of wear due to their closed-back design and plush, cushioned earpads, the trade-off is an enjoyable listening experience. For those who wear glasses, you should find that the Focus A6 don’t apply any extra pressure to your glasses’ arms. In fact, over the past two weeks of testing with my glasses on, I’ve not had any issues or pain from prolonged wearing of the headphones with my glasses.

“As for comfort, the OneOdio Focus A6 are incredibly comfortable to wear, even for an entire day of work.”

The collapsible design also makes them easy to pack into a bag, though it should be noted that they don’t come with their own travel case. Thankfully, due to the aforementioned compact and foldable design, they fit easily into a front pouch or, in my situation, another old headphone case I had lying around the office. While a travel case would have been a nice addition to the Focus A6 package, at $69.99, I can overlook this small accessory omission.

While the overall design functionally works quite well, I do have one small concern about the structure of the A6. As mentioned, the headband includes a metal strap that runs along the headband to reinforce the headphones. While it is sturdy, the connection between the metal band and plastic mounting point feels a bit flimsy by comparison to the rest of the build. I’ve not had any issues in the last two weeks; in fact, they have survived the rugged conditions of my backpack exceptionally well, even without a travel case. However, I do worry that with some time, that will be a weak point for the Focus A6.

Shifting to the audio experience, this is where the Focus A6 blew me away. Featuring 40 mm dynamic drivers and a PET diaphragm, while both are common in wireless headphones, they sound incredible in this application. Powered by Bluetooth 6.0, the A6 produce an impressive audio profile that sounds far clearer and richer than it has any right to for a $69.99 pair of headphones. With full LDAC (Lossless Digital Audio Codec) support in both wireless and wired modes, the A6 provides a beautifully immersive audio experience.

The OneOdio Focus A6 performed exceptionally in frequency testing, providing clean and clear audio across the frequency spectrum. The low-end frequencies presented clearly and without noise, which, for a budget-friendly set of headphones, is generally an area of concern. The mid and upper frequency bands, likewise, provided a crystal clear and crisp listening experience. This translates to a well-rounded audio mix that is clear and clean.

By default (which is where all audio testing is performed), the profile is fairly well balanced. However, if you are looking for a more bass-heavy or high-end mix, the OneOdio Focus A6 can accommodate thanks to the onboard profiles. Managed from the OneOdio App (available on Android and iOS), three preset profiles are provided out of the box, with a fourth, customizable profile also available. While the Bass and Super Bass modes do as advertised, I found that the default Pop mode provides the most balanced audio listening experience.

The Focus A6 also provides a fully immersive surround sound experience for movies, which was a welcome surprise. In testing, the A6 handled surround sound exceptionally well and created an excellent listening experience to complement my videos. It’s this little bit extra that helps raise these budget-conscious headphones above others in their price range.

The app also includes easy access to a host of other features, with the most prominent being the ANC controls. There are five ANC modes to choose from: OFF, ON, Transparency, Wind Noise Reduction and Wind-resistant Transparency. While each does as described, it’s the overall quality of the ANC experience that is impressive. While I’ve tested many ANC systems over the years, OneOdio has managed to include one that is far better than it should be, considering the prices you generally pay for a comparable ANC experience.

“The OneOdio Focus A6 performed exceptionally in frequency testing, providing clean and clear audio across the frequency spectrum.”

Rated for 48dB active noise cancellation, the OneOdio Focus A6 do an excellent job at reducing and blocking background noise. The system easily reduces wind noise and most background frequencies without the audio listening experience suffering as a result. Swapping between modes provides varying degrees of noise reduction, all working as advertised. It’s a slick system that, once again, helps elevate the Focus A6 above the crowd.

Audio calls are also quite clear, and thanks to the multipoint connection capabilities (two devices connected simultaneously), playing games on your tablet or PC, then pausing for a call, is a simple press of a button. It works well and is easy to set up.

The final impressive feature of the Focus A6 is battery life. Rated for 75 hours with ANC off (40 with ANC on), the Focus A6 go the distance. I’ve been actively testing them for the past two weeks, and as someone who constantly listens to music, the longevity of the Focus A6 is impressive. I’ve not had to charge them during the duration of this review period, but they are rated for quick charge, with 10 minutes providing 10 additional hours of listen time. Again, just another reason the Focus A6 are an impressive pair of headphones, especially considering their price point.

The Focus A6 from OneOdio are a seriously solid set of headphones. With impressive audio, solid ANC and serious battery life, there is a lot to love about these sub-$100 headphones. While I do have some mild concerns about the headband stress points, I’m still nonetheless impressed with the overall quality, especially as it relates to audio. If you are in the market for some budget-friendly headphones, the Focus A6 from OneOdio is worth considering.
