Belkin Universal USB-C 11-in-1 Pro Dock Review
Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

It’s easy to become reliant on various devices for certain purposes in our daily lives, but less exciting to consider the logistics of how to effectively keep those devices powered up and convenient. Luckily, iOS device users can find solace in the Belkin UltraCharge Pro 3-in-1 Magnetic Charging Dock.

Charging my iPhone has long been a hard-wired part of my daily routine, but juggling the charging rotation became a little more interesting when I added an Apple Watch, and then AirPods into the mix. Despite how easy it sounds on paper, I was holding out for a long time on converting to MagSafe. However, the Belkin UltraCharge Pro has helped show the benefits of Apple’s magnetic charging capabilities.

The Belkin UltraCharge Pro is a 3-in-1 charger designed to be a reliable power station for your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. Its simple design revolves around a weighted base and a sturdy “trunk,” which splits into a main branch that holds the phone and a smaller branch with the watch’s charging pad. AirPods charge magnetically through the base, while the iPhone has a swivelling pad that helps angle your phone appropriately.

Here, Belkin’s team has found the nigh-perfect balance between function, convenience, and discreet design. Unlike stations that may allow you to run several charging cables through, or other chargers with big, bulky bases, this charging station doesn’t waste space and leaves the devices both out of the way, yet easily accessible if you want to double-check their status.

Over the years I’ve dealt with a fair share of different charging solutions for various rooms, often giving up and going back to the tried-and-true default cord. The Belkin UltraCharge Pro is the first multi-charger I’ve used that truly feels genuinely convenient while actually conserving space.

“The Belkin UltraCharge Pro is the first multi-charger I’ve used that truly feels genuinely convenient while actually conserving space.”

One of my favourite aspects of its design is the ability to tap into more recent iPhones’ StandBy mode. Introduced in 2023 around the time of iOS 17 and the iPhone 15 line, StandBy allows the device to function passively while charging and turned sideways, with on-screen displays or widgets. It’s a great feature, but one that’s awkward with the specific circumstances of my own headboard and bedside.

With the Belkin UltraCharge Pro, however, it’s easy to not only get your phone charging and sideways, but also position it at an optimal angle for viewing (or keeping the background light out of your face, depending on the circumstances). It’s also useful on a desktop or on the kitchen counter—allowing at-a-glance updates on timers or notifications.

The duo of charger and StandBy mode is perfect when travelling, filling in for the familiar comforts of home. With its small profile, the base is pretty easy to throw into a suitcase or carry-on. It would be better still if the main “branch” could fold down further instead of being stuck in one position, to fit all the better into a backpack or laptop bag, but considering the weighted base and the fixed C-shaped form factor, it’s remarkably travel-friendly.

With Qi2 25W wireless charging and a 45W USB-C power supply, the Belkin UltraCharge Pro has the juice for fast charging, allowing users to tap into those impressive top-off times Apple touts for the new generation of i-devices. Between Active Cooling Technology in the MagSafe pad, a built-in fan, and the way a phone is suspended with minimal contact, it helps keep the device cool in the process. The fan itself kicks in as needed; I’m not sure how much of a difference the fan makes alone, as my phone never heated up during charging whether the fan was on or off, but at least it’s very quiet and unobtrusive.

The other two charging points are a little less fancy and again, I’d like to see future iterations of this design offer a little more flexibility on Apple Watch placement. I learned the hard way to listen for the AirPods case to beep, indicating charging has activated, because simply dropping them onto the base willy-nilly sometimes wasn’t enough to instigate charging—a foible either Apple or Belkin could iron out.

Coming in at $180 CAD, the Belkin UltraCharge Pro is not a light investment per se. Yet, considering the time and money I’ve spent experimenting with less efficient charging options, and the way I could easily see this becoming a key fixture in my living room, the end result should justify the price tag up front. If anything, I wish the Belkin UltraCharge Pro was a little cheaper so I could put one in several rooms of my house—bedroom, living room, office—so its services could be ever-ready, wherever I am.
