007 First Light has already hit a fairly major milestone, achieving 1.5 million units sold within the first 24 hours of releasee. This makes it the fastest-selling title in IO Interactive’s history.
It’s certainly a good sign for this brand new iteration of James Bond, which easily feels like it could lead to a more substantive presence for 007 in video games. It also represents quite a shift for IOI, a studio previously known largely for the Hitman series.
First Light has also been met with critical praise, currently sitting at an 87 on Metacritic as one off the top ten highest reviewed games of the year. Our own review gave the game an 8/10, with Marcus Kenneth saying “007 First Light does a great job of making the player feel like they are embodying James Bond. Gadgets, shoot-outs, stealth and an amazing cast really make this stand in the hall of 007 greats.”
But not content to rest on its laurels, IOI has also shared a teaser for First Light’s first content, giving fans an idea of what they can expect. User @farzam_plays on X posted a clip saying that the First Light main menu is teasing future missions for the TacSim, specifically something called the Valhalla Protocol.
TacSim is a relatively small part of the main story, essentially a virtual training program that acts as the game’s tutorial. But it does also give First Light an in-universe way to add as many updates and DLC as IOI wants. It’s a somewhat brilliant justification for adding on a variety of missions, and even feels like we could see missions inspired by other Bond stories.
However, there’s currently no date or window for the game’s first update, or any kind of roadmap for future content. But given the big events coming up in June, like Summer Game Fest and State of Play, it wouldn’t be surprising to see First Light make an appearance there.
