Two new games based on the 1978 horror classic Halloween are in development at Boss Team Games, with John Carpenter tapped in on the project.

The publishers behind the horror video game Evil Dead: The Game, Boss Team Games, return with some exciting news. The studio revealed today that two new games based on the 1978 horror classic film Halloween are in the works at their studio, and it will involve the original director of the horror flick John Carpenter. The director will have some creative input and one of the game was said to be developed in Unreal Engine 5.

The first promo poster for the Halloween games was revealed as well. It shows a recreated version of the original movie poster, with some of the studio logos at the bottom. IGN spoke with Carpenter on the project, “As a huge gamer myself, I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game, and my hope is to scare you silly.” He said he will be “intimately involved” with the development of the new project.

According to the official release, the Halloween-based games will allow players to “relive moments from the film and play as classic characters from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time.” This could hint at another return for Jamie Lee Curtis to reprise her role as Laurie Strode. The two new games are being developed in association with Compass International Pictures and Further Front, with the Unreal Engine 5 project still early in development.

Despite Halloween being more than 45 years old, there have been less than a handful of true video game adaptations. The closest one was 1983’s Halloween on the Atari 2600, in which you play as a babysitter trying to find a safe room while being hunted by Michael Myers. Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight took a likeness of the character with The Shape in their game but was never directly referred to as Michael Myers.

Boss Team Games CEO Steve Harris also shared some words on the project, “Everyone at Boss Team Games are huge fans of horror, and Halloween obviously holds a special place in the hearts of all horror fans. Getting to work with iconic characters like Michael Myers and build on John Carpenter’s original vision is literally a dream come true. Everyone at Boss Team is thrilled and honoured to be working with Malek Akkad and John Carpenter to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience that fans of the movie and video games will love.”

Neither of the two Halloween games has a release date yet.
