AMD Shows Off Impressive Power at CES 2022 1

On the second day of the 2022 Consumer Electronics Showcase (CES), AMD took to the stage for its Product Premier Livestream to show of over 30 new products.

During the livestream, AMD President and CEO Dr. Lisa Su highlighted these products which include 20 new AMD Ryzen 6000 Series processors, three new AMD Radeon RX 6000S Series GPUs optimized for thin-and-light gaming laptops; five new AMD Radeon RX 6000M Series GPUs for premium gaming laptops, the new Radeon RX 6500 XT and Radeon RX 6400 desktop graphics cards, updated AMD smart technologies, and the upcoming AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition application featuring the new AMD Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) driver-based spatial upscaling technology.

“We are excited to start the year launching more than 30 new processors that push the envelope in high-performance computing for every segment of the PC market,” said Dr. Su, “our newest Ryzen and Radeon processors significantly expand our leadership product offerings, bringing more performance, new features and differentiated experiences to gamers, creators and professionals. 2022 looks to be another exceptionally strong year for the PC industry and for AMD.”

AMD boasted some pretty impressive hardware during its press conference. The AMD Ryzen 6000 Series processors are built on the updated AMD “Zen 3+” core, optimized to deliver amazing performance-per-watt. These are the fastest AMD Ryzen processors yet, with up-to 5 GHz clock speeds, up to 1.3 times faster processing speeds, and up to 2.1 times faster graphics then the 5000 Series.

Furthermore, the AMD Ryzen 6000 Series processors are also the first mobile processors to feature RDNA™ 2 architecture-based built-in graphics. With a graphics performance up to twice as fast as the last gen, it’s the world’s first on-chip graphics that can smoothly play the vast majority of PC games in full HD.

A new line-up of AMD Ryzen 5000 Mobile Series processors, improving performance with the incorporation of “Zen 3” processor technology, will also available for 2022:

“AMD is at the forefront of innovation in the PC industry, delivering unmatched experiences for creators, professionals and gamers,” said Senior Vice President and General Manager, Client business unit, AMD: Saeid Moshkelani. “The new AMD Ryzen 6000 Series processors bring remarkable efficiency for impressive battery life, unbeatable built-in graphics and optimized performance to deliver the best AMD has to offer to every type of notebook user.” 

But it’s not just the processors that boast significant power for future gaming laptops and PCs. AMD also detailed a new line of graphics cards that have some pretty impressive specs behind them. The AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT graphics card is said to deliver up to 35 percent faster gaming performance on average at 1080p resolution with high settings, while the AMD Radeon RX 6400 graphics card is designed to offer 1080p gaming in OEM systems.

“More developers are taking advantage of new and exciting features to create incredible life-like visuals, requiring new levels of graphics horsepower,” said Senior Vice President and General Manager, Graphics Business Unit at AMD, Scott Herkelman. “It’s our goal to ensure as many gamers as possible enjoy these games as developers intended. We’re excited to introduce a new arsenal of graphics products and technologies so anyone can enjoy today’s stunning games as they’re meant to be experienced, whether on the desktop or on the go.”

In addition to the Radeon RX 6500 XT and RX 6400, AMD also unveiled the Radeon RX 6000M and Radeon RX 6000S mobile graphics lineup. The top of the RX 6500 XT series: the AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT GPU, which AMD claims can deliver 1440p gaming performance for next-gen premium laptops, and offers 7 percent faster gaming performance on average than the previous top-of-the-line AMD Radeon RX 6800M mobile GPU.

In addition, the AMD RX 6000S is said to offer an ideal blend of performance and efficiency for slim form factors, with the high-end AMD Radeon RX 6800S GPU at 100W is projected to offer the ultimate in thin-and-light 1080p gaming by delivering up to 100 FPS in select titles with max settings, and is projected to offer 10 percent higher performance on average across select titles at 1080p.

All this hardware will be backed by the newest version of the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition application, which offers several new and enhanced capabilities, including AMD Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), a new driver-based upscaling technology that unleashes increased levels of performance with high-quality visuals in thousands of games.

The Alienware m17 R5, an AMD Advantage laptop powered by up to an AMD Ryzen 6980HX APU and up to an AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT GPU is expected to be available in Q2 2022.
