American McGee’s Alice may be coming back with an all-new title.

A new post was made to American McGee’s official blog, suggesting that we might be getting a third entry in the Alice series.  The blog post states that American McGee will be starting work on a proposal for the game, tentatively titled Alice: Asylum. The proposal will be sent to EA, with new artwork and design outlines included alongside a financial/business model. American McGee also encourages enthusiastic fans to show their support for the project by signing up to the Alice 3 mailing list.

American McGee’s Alice originally released on PC in 2000. Developed by Rouge Entertainment, the game acts an unofficial sequel to Lewis Carroll’s Alice novels. Unlike its source material, American McGee’s Alice takes psychological horror approach with its plot, Set years after the original story, Alice must save the corrupted Wonderland that exists in her mind in order to regain her own sanity. The game is played from a third person perspective, using the id Tech 3 engine first used in Quake III Arena. Since its original release and later ports to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, American McGee’s Alice has sold over 1.5 million copies.

In 2011, a sequel to American McGee’s Alice was made, titled Alice: Madness Returns. The released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and was developed by Chinese studio Spicy Horse. Much like the first game, Alice: Madness Returns centres on Alice after she is once again forced into the hellish Wonderland which has been corrupted by a new evil. Gameplay is largely the same but with added features and an upgraded arsenal for Alice to use in combat.

American McGee is best known as the designer of the Alice series. He’s also worked on a number of titles in both the Quake and Doom series, serving as the level designer and sound designer. McGee recently launched a successful Kickstarter project for Out of the Woods, a fairy tale based card game and book which features original art.
