Baldur's Gate 3 Is Out On Xbox Right Now

Despite no announcement being made, Baldur’s Gate 3 finally arrived on the Xbox family of consoles last night, amidst its win as The Game Awards 2023 Game of the Year.

In a surprising move, Baldur’s Gate 3 has shadow-dropped onto the Xbox Series of consoles following its win as Game of the Year last night at The Game Awards 2023. It’s worth noting that Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke was allegedly supposed to announce it after winning an award, but he forgot amid the excitement. Below is a post from Swen Vincke on his X (formerly Twitter) account revealing the release.

What’s notable is the previous promise Larian Studios made regarding Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Xbox release, and how the studio promised the next announcement would be at the Game Awards 2023. Although the announcement was planned, CEO Swen Vincke says “I had one job and that was to announce this if we won an award – sorry all but happy it’s out there!” replying to the accolades trailer from Larian, who announced the Xbox port.

Last night Larian Studios cleaned up at the awards show, with Baldur’s Gate 3 winning the Best Community Support, Best RPG, Best Multiplayer, Player’s Voice, and Game of the Year overall, a total of five wins. It’s worth mentioning that CEO Vincke may not be the sole party to blame here either. The Game Awards 2023 allegedly gave the shortest speech time allowances ever according to attendees, with winning developers seeing a “Please Wrap It Up” notification a couple of minutes after taking the stage for awards.

Journalist Stephen Totilo took to X (formerly Twitter) to express frustration with the issue, posting “Actually, upon further review the “Please wrap it up” that goes up at 30 seconds is static at first and then starts flashing 15-20 seconds afterward if the person is still talking Still far less time than developers who are announcing games are given to promote their projects” when speaking about the time given to award winners for addressing the audience.

But aside from the forgotten Game Awards announcement, Baldur’s Gate 3 is genuinely out on the Xbox Series of consoles right now, so fans who have been waiting can dive in today.
