Cyberpunk 2077 can’t stay out of the headlines with its expansive universe, and a new prequel is set to hit tabletops in 2026. Welcome to Night City 2045.
Cyberpunk 2077 spin-offs and expansions on the universe cannot stay out of the headlines, as CD Projekt Red continues its takeover of the tabletop space with a prequel source book, Night City 2045. This year, the company that built Night City launched a Kickstarter (in collaboration with WeirdCo) for a new Cyberpunk 2077-centred TCG. It then proceeded to crush all of its goals within a week and become the biggest crowdfunded project on the site to date (a staggering accomplishment on Kickstarter).
This means a new TCG is coming, but for fans, it also means Johnny Silverhand will be making his way to tabletops in rectangular foil form. They also launched an animated series on Netflix (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners), which also didn’t do too badly.
To expand their tabletop takeover, CD Projekt Red once again has collaborated with another company (this time, with R.Talsorian Games) to bring a Cyberpunk 2077 prequel to life. Night City 2045 is set a whopping 30 years before the events of Cyberpunk 2077, so no, V (or any of the other characters made famous in 2077) will likely not be making an appearance. Night City 2045 will pull back the curtain on the official hidden history of Cyberpunk 2077 as a massive 312-page sourcebook. This will be the definitive prequel to one of the most ambitious worlds built, and will inform fans on every detail about how the title’s iconic living city functions. The “monster sourcebook” has it all.
To add to the tabletop experience, 99 stat blocks will be available from the Night City 2045 compendium to help you populate your tabletop Night City. These include a variety of lower-level gang members, criminal enforcers, and corporate security. Details on Night City’s street-level factions, including 44 gangs, 6 criminal organizations, and 23 security providers, are also well accounted for. Night City 2045 will provide readers with a district-by-district breakdown of the Night City of 2045. All twenty-four districts, each with its own unique character, will be illuminated, and fans will know who is in charge, who lives there, and what recent events have occurred.
The promised content in Night City 2045 is staggering, and fans have been clamouring for a source book of this magnitude since Cyberpunk 2077‘s epic comeback after a very turbulent launch.
