Bandai Namco officially announced Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, which was revealed at this year’s annual Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour.
A legacy fighting game joins the fray. During the annual Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour event in Los Angeles, Bandai Namco were proud to announce Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is currently in development. They are aiming for a 2027 release window, as the last Xenoverse game was released over a decade ago. The trailer is out now, unveiling that the game will be out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Additionally, this marks the late creator of the Dragon Ball series, Akira Toriyama’s last contribution to a video game.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 was first teased in a leak back in February after a social media mishap on Bandai Namco’s Southeast Asian YouTube page. This announcement trailer was four minutes long, featuring special English voice acting for Bulma, along with several stand-ins for custom character creations. In case you do not know, the Xenoverse games are well-known for players creating their own characters and playing them within the Dragon Ball Z universe.
“Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 continues the series’ legacy with a completely new Dragon Ball experience, where players choose the hero they want to become in an unexplored Dragon Ball world brought to life by the original author, Akira Toriyama,” Bandai Namco said. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 was released in 2016. Part of this bittersweet news was that Toriyama was involved in this project. Toriyama passed away in 2024, but the initial work on this third installment took place in the late 2010s. His name was featured in the trailer as well. While he may not have overseen this whole project, his DNA has been stitched into it.
During a brief panel that followed this announcement trailer, Dragon Ball Xenoverse’s developer showed a new look at male and female player characters designed by Toriyama. As reported by Polygon, Toriyama creatively contributed to the design of the game’s world and characters. Another major reveal during the LA event was the “final chapter” reveal for Xenoverse 2, titled Future Sage: Chapter 4.
This will be the final DLC for the game, as it comes out this summer. “The last chapter brings the Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 – Future Saga Pack Set to a dramatic close, reflecting on everything players have fought for, protecting history, shaping the future, and facing god-level power in a climactic final battle,” Bandai Namco said. A new gameplay trailer unveiled that Goku will join the Dragon Ball FighterZ roster as part of the new DAIMA DLC, launching on April 22.
