Fans eager for the newest entry in the Dragon Quest Monsters series can now see what the new game has in store, as CAPCOM has released a plethora of details about the game.

Announced via press release, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World stars two new Monster Wranglers, Bianca and Nera who, as fans of the series will know, have the unique ability to befriend monsters rather than battle them. The game features over 500 monsters divided into eight families, such as slimes or dragons. Each monster will also have one of nine ranks from G to X, a size of either small (S) or large (L).

Players can have up to four monsters in their party and four more in a reserve—although large monsters will take two slots instead of one, but have more Traits and can perform more actions per turn. During combat, players can give direct orders to their monster or give them a general strategy to follow. On top of this, Bianca and Nera both have access to a special ability known as the Wrangler’s Spirit.

Once per battle, this mysterious power has a chance to activate, providing a range of beneficial boosts that will support monsters and will have different effects when you’re playing as Bianca and as Nera—Bianca’s heals HP and boosts attack power, while Nera’s restores MP and raises defense.

Another major component of Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World is its robust synthesis system. Once a befriended monster hits level 10, it can be used as a “parent” for synthesis. After synthesis, both parents will disappear, leaving behind a child monster that has the potential to become stronger than its predecessors by inheriting their Talents. By experimenting with synthesis, players can discover many new and unique monsters who are only available through the process. What’s more, some special synthesis patterns involve combining four different monsters!

Lastly, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withering World will feature three brand new monsters in addition to a host of familiar monsters from throughout the Dragon Quest series. “Slime Balls” are three sushi inspired slimes that come in three mouthwatering flavors. “Bamboo Badboy,” a nature family monster who lures in hungry folk in the guise of a succulent bamboo shoot. And “Groovy Grouse,” monster of the nature family that moves and grooves to the nonstop melodies that play in its head.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withering World will be available on December 3rd, 2026 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC.
