EA’s Losses Unravel Patent Trademark - 2016-01-21 11:04:34

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has abandoned the trademark for EA’s yarn-based puzzle-platformer Unravel.

According to the document on the UPSTO website, on December 23

rd

, two trademarks regarding Unravel were abandoned as EA failed to respond to an office action by the USPTO. The issue was officially filed January 19

th

.

The two filings for  US serial number 86564978, Unravel, for goods and services “Computer game software” and US serial number 86564980, Unravel, for goods and services “Entertainment services, namely, providing an on-line computer game” were denied due to their likeliness to U.S. Registration No. 4227793, referring to a board game by the same name held by SimplyFun.

According to the issue “Registration of the applied-for mark is refused because of a likelihood of confusion with the mark in U.S. Registration No. 4227793.”

Whether or not this means a name change for Unravel is unclear at the moment. EA or ColdWood could always just call it Yarny’s Woolly World.
