For the first time in the Fallout franchise, Bethesda is bringing playable Ghouls in Fallout 76 in the Ghoul Within update, alongside unlocking new rewards in Season 20: Glow of the Ghoul.
27 years after the release of the first Fallout game, Fallout 76’s latest update, Ghoul Within, introduces a playable Ghoul race and new unlockable rewards in Season 20: Glow of the Ghoul. Players who dare to take on the role of a Ghoul will be immune to radiation, unlock 30 new Ghoul-specific perks, The Feral Meter, and more.

After completing a specific quest at Level 50 in Fallout 76, players can venture into Appalachia as a Ghoul. Compared to regular Wastelanders, players can conceal their Ghoulification for faction interactions, are immune to radiation damage as it heals them, and unlock many abilities to use alongside 30 new Ghoul-specific Perk cards. Interestingly, the Hunger and Thirst meter is replaced with The Feral Meter, depleting until the player goes Feral.
If you decide you do not want to continue as a Ghoul, players can revert to being human once per character. But if you wish to become a Ghoul again, players can purchase a token in the Atomic Shop.
Alongside the Fallout 76 update, Ghoul Within, players can partake in Season 20: Glow of the Ghoul. From customizing your home to spicing up your appearance, players can unlock:
- Goo Splatter – A splatter of green goo on the base wall.
- Unfortunate End – A decorative nuclear-waste tank.
