As if the announcement of the FFXIV expansion, Dawntrail, was not enough, Square Enix also announced that Final Fantasy 14 will be coming to Xbox during FFXVI Fan Fest.
FFXVI Fan Fest was full of announcements, and it looks like Xbox gamers are finally getting in on the FFXIV action. Today, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer took to the stage to announce that Final Fantasy 14 would be coming to the Xbox Series X/S.
With Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) introducing him to the crowd of fans in Las Vegas, Nevada, Spencer revealed that FF XIV is coming to Xbox Series X/S, skipping the last generation to bring the expansive open-world MMORPG to Xbox players everywhere.
This is major news, considering Final Fantasy 14, up to this point, has been exclusive to PlayStation and PC, this gives a whole new selection of fans a chance to play one of the best MMORPGs currently available. Slated for release in Spring 2024, the new launch will feature full cross-play support so you can still play will all your friends no matter what system they choose to play on. While the game will be playable on both the Xbox Series X/S, only the Series X will support 4K resolution.
“It’s great to be here with so many warriors of light. Thank you for the very warm welcome,” Spencer said as he addressed the crowd. “The Xbox community is passionate about games, and like so many players around the world, the Final Fantasy series is one that gets lots of love from Team Xbox. And we’re very happy to announce the Xbox version of Final Fantasy XIV with my friend Yoshida-San today. Together with his team, we are bringing the best online experience of this game to Xbox fans everywhere, and through crossplay, you can experience Final Fantasy XIV with old and new players alike.”
Launching in the spring of 2024, FFXIV will be released just in time to experience all that Dawntrail has to offer. Combined with the massive amount of content already available in Final Fantasy, Xbox fans will have a wealth of new experiences waiting for them when they launch the game for the first time.
