The trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash is officially out online now, taking audiences back to Pandora for the second sequel.
Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their Na’vi family return to the big screen once again, with James Cameron. The trailer for 20th Century Studios’ Avatar: Fire and Ash is officially out online now, taking audiences back to Pandora for the second sequel. This past weekend, the trailer debuted on the big screen with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, providing movie-goers with a first look at the film’s eye-popping visuals, new clans, and stunning new creatures. The visuals revealed a general gist of what audiences remembered from Avatar: The Way of the Water and what is to come.
Without much voiceover, this was more of an Avatar: Fire and Ash teaser trailer. The exact story details were very sparse in the trailer, but they offered a great first look at the current state of Pandora. An Empire interview with Cameron back in January provided some background context to this trailer.
One of the biggest details out of Avatar: Fire and Ash is how it introduces a new Na’vi tribe: the Mangkwan Clan, also known as the Ash People, led by the fierce Varang (Oona Chaplin). It showed how their ash-covered home was destroyed by a volcanic eruption. Varang appeared to be a fierce adversary to Neytiri, as Varang wears a red headdress and has some kind of fire-bending powers, sorta? “We’re trying to evolve beyond the ‘all humans are bad, all Na’vi are good’ paradigm,” Cameron noted in the interview—referencing the two previous films.
Audiences can expect the iconic villain Colonel Miles Quaritch’s return as he appeared to be working with Varang’s clan to take down Jake and his family again. The Avatar: Fire and Ash trailer also ended on a tense exchange between Varang and Kiri: “Your goddess has no dominion here,” the fiery leader exclaims. In addition to the Ash People, the trailer includes a look at the Wind Traders, a nomadic Na’vi clan that travels aboard airborne ships drawn by massive jellyfish-like creatures. It also teases that the film will see Jake being captured by humans. David Thewlis joins the cast as Peylak, the chief of the Wind Traders.
“They’re nomadic traders, equivalent to the camel caravans of the Spice Road back in the Middle Ages,” Cameron explained. “And you know, they’re just fun. Like all Na’vi, they live in a symbiosis with their creatures.” While we have seen flying creatures in abundance from the last two Avatar movies, nothing compares to these bigger creatures!
Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña return as their characters, along with Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, and Kate Winslet. The film was written for the film by Cameron, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver, and storied by Cameron, Jaffa, Silver, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno.

The Avatar franchise began in 2009. The first movie grossed nearly $3 billion at the global box office and was nominated for numerous Academy Awards, winning Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects. The second film in the franchise, Avatar: The Way of Water, then came in 2022. That movie was also a massive hit, making around $2.3 billion at the global box office.
The third film in the phenomenally successful Avatar franchise opens exclusively in theaters worldwide in IMAX 3D, Dolby Cinema 3D, RealD 3D, Cinemark XD, 4DX, ScreenX, and premium screens everywhere on December 19, 2025. Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water, meanwhile, are both currently available to stream on Disney+.
