Today, Epic Games announced on their blog a new restriction parents can place on Fortnite, allowing them to control when it’s time for their children to log off.
On Tuesday morning, Epic Games announced on their blog new parental control features, giving parents ultimate control over their children’s playing time, specifically with Fortnite. These parental controls allow parents (or guardians) to monitor and manage their children’s gaming habits on the Epic Games platform. With the new optional settings, parents can limit daily playtime, allow kids to request additional time, and even restrict play to specific time windows during the day.

Once a parent sets a time limit, kids will receive a notification 30 minutes before the cutoff, reminding them not to start another match. When the limit is reached, the child will be locked out of Fortnite and UEFN (Unreal Editor for Fortnite) until the next day or the start of a new play window—unless a parent grants more time. Asking for extra time is only possible if the parent has enabled that option.
The controls extend further with settings for voice and chat permissions, filtering mature language, and managing purchases to prevent kids from spending large sums on items like the latest Golden Peely skin. Another feature, called “time reports,” provides access to a dashboard in the Epic Games Account Portal, offering a daily breakdown of time spent in Fortnite and UEFN, along with a record of when parents have granted extra time.
How to Set Up Fortnite & UEFN Parental Controls

Parents interested in the new settings may be surprised by how easy they are to set up. After signing into their child’s Epic Games account through the Epic Account Portal, parents can set or modify in-game settings and even opt to receive email reports when changes are made to the child’s account. All of the previously mentioned settings, like time limits, voice and chat permissions, and purchase restrictions, can be adjusted here.
For less tech-savvy parents, there’s also an option to manage these settings directly on the child’s console, whether it’s PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch, by following the user-friendly prompts on the platform of choice.
