The incredibly popular proximity chat feature in Call of Duty: Warzone may be coming to Fortnite, according to a new rumour (or leak) that has appeared online today.
Today, a new rumour about Fortnite, the popular battle royale game by Epic Games, has surfaced. The rumour suggests that Fortnite may soon include a popular feature from Call of Duty: Warzone: proximity voice chat. This feature allows players to communicate with each other using microphones when they are nearby. The rumour was sparked by a screenshot posted on X (formerly Twitter) by the well-known leaker iFireMonkey. You can see the post and the screenshot below.
The screenshot shows a setting that players can customize, which is a setting that allows players to communicate over a certain distance, ranging from 0.5 to 10, but it doesn’t detail what the numbers mean. The caveat regarding the addition of proximity chat is that it will allegedly only appear in the ‘Creative Mode’ to begin with, and there’s no news on whether or not the feature will roll out to the Battle Royale or No-Build modes in the future.
Proximity chat has recently become more popular due to a viral feud on the internet featuring the two-time Blockbuster back-to-back video game champion DrDisrespect, and another streamer named AaronTheLoco, where the latter screams at DrDisrespect to drop his weapons and put his hands up for a boxing match. Fans can watch the series (only possible with proximity chat) on his official YouTube account.
On the other side of X (formerly Twitter), another known information vendor for Fortnite, Shiina, has released information regarding new skins coming to Fortnite. New Coachella Music Festival-based skins are coming to Fortnite, and leading the charge is an Inferno Skeleton J BALVIN skin. This news has also been posted up on the Fortnite Blog, and fans can head over to the link for details surrounding the Coachella x Fortnite drop.
While there has been no official announcement regarding Fortnite‘s proximity chat, fans should take the news with caution, considering Epic Games has scrapped ideas for Battle Island before, and leaks have proven to be false before.
