Gamescom 2022 Confirms Over 500 Companies are Registered For its In-Person Return

Gamescom 2022 is on its way on August 23rd, to round out a summer of big game events like Summer Game Fest, PlayStation State of Play, and the Xbox & Bethesda Game Showcase.

Unlike other past Gamescom events during the pandemic era, for the first time since 2019, this year’s event will be making its return at a physical location in Cologne, Germany at the city’s Koelnmesse. Gamescom 2022 is set to run from August 23rd through the 28th which will have the reghular entertainment areas plus “additional sections, including for cosplay, retro, and indie fans”.

“Together with the community and the exhibitors, we are really looking forward to the end of August, when we can finally experience the unique Gamescom atmosphere live on-site in Cologne,” Gamescom’s co-organizer and managing director, Felix Falk said in a statement.

For people unable to make the trip like in past years, the event will have something that digital viewers can enjoy including an on location livestream of Geoff Keighley and his team’s Opening Night Live showcase to kick off the event on August 23rd. Before public access ticket holders, Gamescom 2022 will first open up for trade visitors, press, and content creators on August 24th.

In anticipation of the event, the team behind Gamescom has confirmed that this year over 500 companies are taking part in the event and organizers claim more will follow as we get closer to the event. That number is doubled compared to the Gamescom’s organizer’s claimed number of around 250 back in mid-May. Some of those confirmed that will be at the event include Xbox and a bevvy of AAA game publishers/developers like 2K Games, 505 Games, Bandai Namco, HoYoverse, Humble Games, Koch Media, Sega, THQ Nordic, Ubisoft, WB Games, and so much more.

Two console platforms noticeably not mentioned are obviously Nintendo and PlayStation which both confirmed via Games Wirtschaft that they will not be at the Cologne event, also GameIndustry.Biz has confirmed EA will also not be at the event.
