Today is a big day at Halo Studios. Halo Next has reportedly been uncovered by a new job listing, and Halo Infinite has received a massive PvE update, bringing Firefight Gauntlet to co-op.
First, there have been rumours circulating that Halo 2 and 3 were receiving the remake treatment, and now, not only is there a new PvE Firefight Gauntlet mode in Halo Infinite, but Halo Next (the alleged next title in the Halo franchise) has apparently been revealed by a job listing.
A newly posted YouTube video from Rebs Gaming reveals details about Halo Next and how this information connects to a Microsoft job listing. The video goes on to explain other ideas, like why The Flood (a nasty Halo adversary) won’t be appearing anytime soon, but the real information comes from this job listing, for Narrative Design Director at Halo Studios.
The job listing reads, “We are looking for a Narrative Design Director to help define and deliver the narrative experience for Halo Next. The Narrative Design Director is responsible for the narrative direction of Halo, including campaign story structure, tone, character arcs, and narrative integration across gameplay.“ The listing also says the applicant must “ensure narrative and gameplay work together to deliver a cohesive and memorable campaign experience,” which means Halo Next could potentially be campaign-only like Halo: Campaign Evolved, but nothing is confirmed just yet.
On top of the new Halo Next news, Halo Infinite has seemingly dropped a new Firefight Gauntlet mode for fans, and the consensus is it’s fun. A new blog post from Halo Studios has defined the new game mode, which it claims to be “deviously difficult”. The Gauntlet brings endless waves of enemies with upgradeable attributes, elimination objectives, and auto-scaled difficulty settings to a boss-filled Firefight experience designed to challenge even the toughest Spartans.
While Halo Next appears to be a real thing and Firefight Gauntlet is live, it seems Halo is far from finished. But fans should take the Halo Next news with a grain of salt until an official announcement is made by Halo Studios or Microsoft, considering it’s possible the job listing could be mistaken.
