Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Shibuya Incident Arc Is Here 1

Jujutsu Kaisen is back to begin its new arc for season 2, bringing more action and story as seen in the latest trailer and opening song.

After almost a whole month off of Jujutsu Kaisen, season 2 finally returns from Satoru Gojo’s past and into the present. The Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc was a shocking and insightful way to begin the season, but things will be heating up as the Shibuya Incident arc ramps up. This week, Studio MAPPA teased fans with a new trailer, visual art and opening song to preview what is to come for the next epic storyline. No more watching recaps!

King Gnu returns performing the new opening theme song, “SPECIALZ”, a major hype song matching an insane story arc to come. They last performed the ending theme for the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0. The Shibuya Incident arc was already revealed to have 18 episodes, which seems like a decent amount to cover this pivotal moment. 18 weeks of pure Jujutsu Kaisen fun, fighting and drama. As someone who is up-to-date on the manga, I can confidently say fans are in for a super delicious treat for the fights about to go down.

The latest trailer and poster pretty much showed the key players in the Shibuya Incident arc, of course, a lot revolving around Yuji Itadori/Sukuna Ryomen, Satoru Gojo, Suguru Geto and Mahito. Others include Megumi Fushiguro, Nobara Kugisaki, Toge Inumaki, Maki Zen’in, Kento Nanami, Atsuya Kuskakabe, Principal Masamichi Yaga, Shoko Ieiri, Mei Mei, Panda, Jogo, Hanami, and a triumphant return of Yuta Okkotsu. While I assume they would be doing the entire Shibuya Incident arc, the chances are high for us to see Yuta back in action. And boy, is he ever stronger with Rika.

The latest poster on Jujutsu Kaisen’s Twitter also pretty much showed who would be in this arc. With no Yuta in the image or the trailer, they might be holding it for a climactic final episode reveal. Despite that, fans will get to see more of a very interesting sorcerer named Choso. The trailer showed him attacking Yuji by basically blood-bending in a similar manner to that in Avatar: The Last Airbender.

There is still some time to catch up on season 2, with the five episodes that have already aired. Those episodes covered the past of Gojo and Geto as young sorcerers, revealing their ambitions in their jujutsu school days. Essentially, the plot for the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc was that it went back to the springtime of 2006.

A younger Gojo and Geto were known as the best Special Grade curse users, alongside their companion Shoko Ieiri. They were second-handedly tasked by the immortal being Tengen to escort the Star Plasma Vessel, Amanai Riko, to the merger of her with Tengen. However, an assassin named Toji Fushiguro planned to assassinate Riko before the two could accomplish their mission.

The Shibuya Incident arc will be extremely significant for setting the new tone and stakes for the anime overall. Knowing what happens post-Shibuya Incident arc, I can say this will be the most detrimental moment for Yuji and his friends and colleagues. Let us just say that this anime does not mind killing off major characters in a Game of Thrones style.

This arc will also serve as a progressive chance for certain characters to evolve and sort of level up their stats as well. It will also help tie in the events of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film. Based on the shot at the end of the trailer, it looked like Sukuna was about to attack someone or something. Is Yuji going to lose control again? Does Gojo finally bite off more than he can chew? You will just have to see for yourself!

Catch Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 exclusively on Crunchyroll. The first five episodes of season 2 began airing back on July 6. It will be airing every Thursday beginning on Thursday, August 31, 2023.
