The Last Guardian Delayed into December 1

The Last Guardian has suffered yet another delay, and will no longer be making its originally projected October release date.

News of this comes from a post on the PlayStation Blog from Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida, who confirmed that The Last Guardian is now on track to come to PlayStation 4 on December 6th.

“Fumito Ueda (gen Design) and Japan Studio have a wonderful vision for The Last Guardian’s touching, emotional journey of friendship and trust, and we want to deliver the most polished experience possible for our fans who have supported us for so long. A delay is a difficult decision, particularly with this game, but we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development. To ensure that The Last Guardian delivers on the experience that the game’s creators have envisioned, we need to take the extra time to work on those issues.”

The Last Guardian has been in development for nearly a decade now, having been originally revealed as a PlayStation 3 game back in 2009. The game went quiet for several years before being re-introduced to the public as a PlayStation 4 game during Sony’s E3 press conference in 2015. Sony put an October 25th release date on the game at this year’s E3, as well as had a playable build at the event.

Should The Last Guardian launch on schedule this time, it will be developer Team Ico’s first game since 2005’s Shadow of the Colossus. Both it and the studio’s first game Ico were re-released on PlayStation 3 as a collection in anticipation for The Last Guardian’s originally projected launch on the system, which never panned out as the game’s development became troubled over its several years, including the departure of creative director Fumito Ueda from Sony, who has been working on the game as contractor since 2011.
