According to The Last of Us Part 2’s composer, Gustavo Santaolalla, a new version of the critically-acclaimed game might be in development.
Speaking to the Spanish site BLENDER, as spotted by Resetera, Santaolalla briefly mentioned some kind of updated version, where players will be able to interact with his cameo character in Jackson.
“In the new editions, you can make me play certain themes,” says the composers. “I can’t tell you anything else.”
While this is the first we’ve heard of any updated version, it’s not entirely surprising that The Last of Us Part 2 would have something in development. The original game received an updated remaster for both PS4 and PS5 and was released on PC.
At this point, the only version we’ve seen of Part 2 is the original PS4 release, so it seems inevitable we’d see a PC version, or updated PS5 version, or both, at some point. Sony has been pushing to bring its games to PC audiences recently, including the PS5 exclusives Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
It’s been a big week for both Naughty Dog and The Last of Us. Earlier in the week, Naughty Dog co-founder Evan Wells announced he was retiring after 25 years. Wells has been a key part of the studio for over two decades, and in his farewell statements, he says,
“I couldn’t be more excited about our current projects and not getting to see those games to completion is going to be hard. But we’ve never had a stronger team in place to ensure that we will deliver them in a way that will set industry standards and exceed all expectations.”
Naughty Dog currently has a multiplayer mode in development for The Last of Us Part 2, and rumours have begun circulating recently about The Last of Us Part 3.
Also this week, The Last of Us’ HBO adaption received a whopping 24 Emmy nominations, including Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series for Pedro Pascal, and Best Actress in a Drama Series for Bella Ramsey.
