Lorcana’s Hyperia City Invites Illumineers To Head Downtown

Adventures await in the big city for Disney Lorcana fans, as Ravensburger’s spirited TCG has revealed Hyperia City, due out in October.

The game’s 14th set revolves around the titular city, a metropolis where magic, technology, and the art of magic inks combine. Named for Hyperion Studio—the original home of Disney’s animation studios until it moved to Burbank in 1940—Hyperia City looks to carry the spirit of Disney’s parks and cartoon locations while still having its own identity. The setting is perhaps best embodied by the Multidisciplinary Academy for Genius, Imagination, & Creativity (or M.A.G.I.C. for short), blending Disney’s different types of magic and technology.

The big innovation debuting in Hyperia City are ink drops, a new mechanic that will change how players play their cards. Instead of discarding cards into their Inkwell to build their repository of ink, players will be able to expend these new counters to pay 1 ink instead. Where the inkwell is an ongoing, renewable resource, ink drops are expendable; they don’t reset between turns, and interact in some new ways from the usual energy source.

With this new way to play cards comes a plethora of new cards that lean into it. Some cards in Hyperia City will help generate ink drops, like the song Higitus Figitus which generates three counters when played, or Go Go Tomago—Extreme Tester, who generates one whenever she gets challenged. Other cards might be enhanced if you hold on to a bunch of these counters at once, such as Wasabi—Called Into Battle. Just having a drop buffs his strength by +2, enhancing his Twin Blades ability, which allows him to deal damage to another character when successfully damaging the character he’s challenging.

Each of the six ink colours will have interactions with ink drops within Hyperia City, representing their typical personalities; Amber, for example, excels at giving all players drops. Players can indicate drops with token-style cards from packs (separate from the usual rarity slot in packs), with dice, or in other creative ways that may help differentiate them from the traditional inkwell.

It wouldn’t be a new Disney Lorcana set without new interpretations of Mickey, Minnie, and the princesses. As usual, Hyperia City will show its artistic and thematic inspirations through these iconic characters and the game’s thoughtful art direction. Glimmers of Tiana, Rapunzel, and Cinderella have found new niches in town.

Music is also an important part of the city’s lifestyle, allowing for even more cards based on The Goofy Movie. The new Disney property included in Hyperia City is Coco, and its powerful ballad Remember Me is rendered into card form that allows players to return characters from the discard to the battlefield. Decks based around the Singer type should thrive with Powerline—Megastar, who gains more lore for each fellow Singer in play on his side.

The two Iconic-rarity cards announced for Hyperia City are Cinderella—Unintentional Icon and Mickey Mouse—Best In Town. Each shows a hint of the city’s night, evoking memories of Disney World parks after dark. Mickey’s cooking up hot dogs, while Cinderella’s dress features embroidered pumpkin carriage details that showing she hasn’t lost sight of her origins.

Hyperia City prerelease events begin on October 16, and the main set goes on sale October 23. Before that, players can pick up the third Illumineer’s Quest, called “The Great Hunny Rescue,” on October 2—a collaborative quest mode where players team up with the inhabitants of the Hundred Acre Wood to oppose the evil Vine that has been spreading through the world of Disney Lorcana.

Looking beyond, Ravensburger confirmed that the next set, Into the Inkdark, will release on February 12, 2027. This set will be focused on villains such as Hades, Mother Gothel, and Gaston, and the lord of the underworld’s Dark Illuminary. Then, Cosmic Quest—the last set of Disney Lorcana‘s “Year 4″—will then follow in Q2 2027, introducing the robots of Wall-E.
