The list of video games that accumulated over one million copies sold for the first quarter of 2017 just grew a little larger. Daniel Ahmad, an analyst at Niko Partners and a regular video game follower, sent out a tweet just recently that confirmed both Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Persona 5 joined the million sellers list for April 2017.
These two join the extensive and illustrious list of games, that Ahmad tweeted out late last month, that already accumulated this total: Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Horizon Zero Dawn, NieR: Automata, For Honor, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mass Effect, Monster Hunter XX, Ghost Recon, PUBG and Nioh.

Ever since their unveiling, both Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Persona 5 have been met with critical acclaim. It should not surprise anyone that both immensely popular titles eclipsed one million copies sold. But, speaking for Mario Kart exclusively, it is a little shocking how quickly the total was accumulated. After all, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has only been available worldwide since April 28, 2017.
Since that date, critics have raved about the extensive amount of content present in the racing game. The addition of a revamped battle mode has also been extremely well-received, and many are going as far to say it is the best entry in the entire franchise.
Persona 5, on the other hand, has been out for one month now. Though the timeframe is longer, the accomplishment is not less significant. As far as the game itself, players have fallen in love with the game’s presentation and art style; with many call it an unblemished masterpiece.
When it is all said, and done, these sales numbers (and rave reviews) prove that at the end of the year, both entries could be a front-runner for game of the year.
