Marvel’s Midnight Suns Trailer shows off Gameplay

A week after the official announcement of Marvel’s Midnight Suns at Opening Night Live, gameplay footage has been revealed in a new trailer.

When the game was announced, developer Firaxis Games—best known for the XCOM games—teased that a first look at gameplay would come this week, and they delivered on that promise. The three-minute gameplay footage was posted on Marvel‘s YouTube channel, a more expansive six-minute trailer was released on IGN’s YouTube channel which goes more in-depth into the game’s story.

With knowing the developer behind the game, it definitely feels like Marvel’s take on strategy RPG games like XCOM and more. An understated inspiration for Marvel’s Midnight Suns is definitely Fire Emblem, as the trailer shows off its own relationship-building system.

The game will feature a roster of Marvel characters that is both a mix of the familiar to fans of the MCU and other classic Marvel characters. The game’s roster includes Blade, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, Iron Man, Magik, Nico Minoru and Wolverine.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns will let you play as an original character known as the Hunter, a forsaken child of Lilith, aka the mother of all demons. The hunter is revived by The Avengers after Hydra brought Lilith into the mortal realm because the Hunter is the only one who has defeated Lilith before.

The gameplay shows that players will be able to form a team of three heroes whose abilities will be randomized before the battle. The unpredictable aspect of the game means players will have to change up their tactics during the battle. Out of battle, players will be able to explore the game’s livable area, The Abbey, to help build their relationships with other heroes. Doing so will unlock new rewards during combat.

“I grew up reading and loving Marvel comics. To be entrusted with these characters and their stories is an honour for me and the team,” Firaxis Games creative director, Jake Solomon said following the game’s official reveal. “If you’re a Marvel fan, or an RPG fan, or a fan of tactics games, Marvel’s Midnight Suns will make these beloved characters come alive in a way you’ve never seen before.”

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is set to launch in March next year on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
