Sierra Entertainment was founded in 1979 by Ken and Roberta Williams, under the original name of On-Line Systems. They released their first game called Mystery House in 1980 and it became an instant success. It was the first computer adventure game to have graphics, but they were merely monochromatic lines designed to look like scenes.

They would continue to release games under the Hi-Res Adventure series (which Mystery House was the first of), and in the summer of 1984, they would release the first King’s Quest game, which would begin a landmark series. King’s Quest V would be their first game to sell over 500,000 copies.

In 2008, Sierra’s parent company Vivendi merged with Activision to create Activision Blizzard, and ownership of Sierra was transferred to Activision. Sierra would close down later that year. In 2014, they were revived to focus on re-releasing their game and bringing back some of their old franchises.
