A Tablet For The Great Outdoors

A tablet is almost as essential as a phone nowadays, with plenty of subcategories that can make finding the right one a journey. Whether it’s one acting as a laptop replacement or another focused on gaming, the right tablet can fit as well as a proper pair of shoes. For those who live and breathe the outdoors, the RUGTAKE T5 Pro 5G Rugged Tablet is one that shouldn’t be overlooked. With a massive battery and decent performance, this is one that can withstand the elements, even if there are some drawbacks.

The RUGTAKE T5 Pro really is built with those who work outdoors, go camping often, or work around construction in mind. It is a big, weighty 11” tablet that truly feels sturdy. Weighing in at 2.4 pounds, the heft is noticeable, but not heavy enough that the additional weight would be annoying to carry around in a packed backpack. It’s entirely sealed, meaning that it’s waterproof rated at IP68/IP69K and MIL-STD-810H durability for drops up to 1.2m. A couple of falls won’t do anything to this beastly hardware, making it an ideal companion for any weather situation or drop outside.

On the battery front, the RUGTAKE packs in a whopping 20,080mAh battery, with 33W fast charging and OTG reverse charging. It’ll last days at a time, especially if you’re not using the 5G service. While the 33W fast charging is a bit low, it’ll still charge back up to full at a reasonable pace. Given the outdoor focus, a higher charging wattage would have been ideal, but it’s not a game-breaker.

For internals, the RUGTAKE comes running with Android 16 and a 6nm UNISOC T8200 octa-core processor and 32GB memory, split at 6GB RAM and 26 GB virtual. It comes with 256GB storage and goes up to 2TB with microSD cards. In practice, the performance is fine. I wouldn’t be doing much gaming on the device outside of streaming or simple titles. It does streaming and calls just fine, even if Chrome can take a couple of seconds to open and navigating through can have a few lag spikes. It’s not perfect, but it’s serviceable given the focus on outdoor usage.

The display is an 11-inch 2K 120Hz display that can hit up to 450-nit brightness, making it easy to use and see the screen, even outdoors. It looks solid, even if the colours can look a bit muted. The speakers are also decent, with clear vocals, though they can sound quite muddy and blown out at higher volumes. If you’re watching an episode of your favourite show, it’ll do the job just fine.

Cameras in the RUGTAKE are also solid, with a 64MP main camera, 20MP night vision camera, and 16MP front camera. There’s also an underwater mode for those who would need to snap some images in a lake or stream. The pictures, just like everything with the RUGTAKE, are decent. They may not be the most crisp or beautiful out there, but capturing some great shots while out for a hike or camping is easy.

“The RUGTAKE T5 Pro really is built with those who work outdoors, go camping often, or work around construction in mind.”

That’s the overall thing with the RUGTAKE. While it may not be the most technologically advanced tablet with ultra performance and top-of-the-line specs, it makes up for all of that by fitting in a very specific niche. It’s solid and hefty, perfect for those looking to take it for a long hike, camping excursion, or those who may work on a construction site. If there’s any cause for concern when it comes to damage or weather, the RUGTAKE is the perfect companion. It’s not for everyone, but it doesn’t feel like it’s meant to be; instead, it acts as a solid choice for those who spend more time outdoors than indoors.

None of the features exemplify this more than the 380-Lumen camping light. It’s a massive light perfect for nighttime trips to the bathroom or, much more critically, in an emergency at low light. It even features flashing SOS modes when things really take a turn for the worse.

Would I recommend the RUGTAKE for someone who’s looking for a gaming tablet or for an office worker looking for productivity? Not at all; it’s too heavy and bulky for that type of usage. But for those who live and breathe the outdoors, go camping every weekend, and are always on the hunt for the next trail to hike, the RUGTAKE T5 Pro Rugged Tablet is the ideal companion, with decent performance, a massive battery, and enough protection and other bells and whistles that make braving the elements easy.
