New Friday the 13th Movie and Game Confirmed at SDCC 2025

The Legendary Camper and Slasher Returns

Friday the 13th: The Game (Nintendo Switch) Review 1

Horror Inc. vice president Robbie Barsamian confirmed that a new Friday the 13th sequel film and video game are in early development.

Horror-slasher fans were treated to some exciting news as the iconic Jason Voorhees celebrated 45 years at San Diego Comic Con 2025. Horror Inc. vice president Robbie Barsamian confirmed that a new Friday the 13th sequel film and video game are in early development. Barsamian dropped the major news in an SDCC 2025 panel, which showcased Horror Inc.’s 45th anniversary campaign for the legendary slasher—titled Sweet Revenge. Jason has not been on the big screen for about 16 years, but that is all about to change.

Horror Inc. is the company that currently handles the Friday the 13th franchise IP, under the label Jason Universe. During the panel, Barsamian noted how there has not been a new film involving the masked slasher since the reboot 16 years ago. “I can tell you that a new sequel movie and a new sequel game are at the top of our list. It’s where most of our energy’s going right now. And I can tell you finally we’re in a position to deliver on that,” Barsamian confirmed (as reported by Bloody Disgusting). “While we’re not officially announcing with our partners today, both are coming. They’re both in the works and they’re both coming.”

New Friday The 13Th Game And Movie Confirmed At Sdcc 2025

Upon hearing Barsamian’s brief update bomb on the next steps for Jason and Friday the 13th, the crowd was ecstatic. While no details were shared about where development stands on the sequel film or game, the update was a welcome one. IllFonic’s Friday the 13th: The Game launched in 2017 and was discontinued from live service on Dec. 31, 2024. The game found early popularity among streamers but was eventually shut down for unclear reasons. It remains playable in offline mode.

The main Friday the 13th-adjacent project showcased at SDCC 2025 was Sweet Revenge. Described as a “short-form vignette,” the piece will serve as “the centrepiece of the franchise’s bold 45th anniversary campaign.” It marks the official return of Jason Voorhees for the first time in many years. You can watch the trailer for the project below.

“I am so grateful that the team at Horror, Inc. saw something in Sweet Revenge and wanted it as a part of the Jason Voorhees story!” Nelson said in a statement. “And to think 30 years ago I was trying to secretly watch these movies on VHS when no one was looking. To have the opportunity to write and direct one of these stories is surreal—not to mention having an amazing team led by Chad Villella and Brianna Lee Johnson help me bring it to life! Not only is the vignette a new take on the beloved IP, it is a comforting, gory hug, reminding us why we fell in love with these movies. Much gruesome fun awaits you!”

Friday the 13th LLC’s Marc Toberoff added: “Jason has always been a force in pop culture, and the 45th anniversary felt like the perfect moment to do something truly unexpected. Partnering with Horror, Inc. and Angry Orchard, who share our passion, has opened up a new way to engage fans. It’s exciting to see the franchise evolve with such creativity while staying true to what makes Jason iconic.”

While we wait for a new film, the prequel series Crystal Lake is currently in production from A24 and Peacock. Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane wasn’t able to attend in person due to filming, but he sent an exclusive video message featuring some behind-the-scenes footage from the show. That footage was exclusive to SDCC, but expect more on Crystal Lake in the coming weeks. Ultimately, the iconic hockey mask killer is coming back in big ways.
