Kratos Has a Powerbomb?

Prime Video’s God Of War Rumours Have Hit Dave Bautista Levels, The Actor May Take Over The Kratos Role

Prime Video and Sony Pictures Television are reportedly getting a big-name replacement for the high-profile God of War series, and it might be Bautista.

Last month, Prime Video made the difficult decision to recast its lead for the God of War series after Sons of Anarchy actor Ryan Hurst suffered a major injury while performing a stunt during filming. The reported injury (a torn bicep) has a long recovery timetable, and instead of waiting it out, Prime Video has decided to move forward with the project without Hurst in the driver’s seat. Today, rumours have come out regarding who could be replacing the actor for Kratos, and it appears that, for season two, Prime Video will reportedly be recasting Atreus as well.

Amazon’s God Of War Series Forced To Recast Kratos After Ryan Hurst Suffers On-Set Injury

Deadline has reported that Dave Bautista, a physical actor formerly from the world of professional wrestling entertainment, is rumoured to take over the reins in God of War from Ryan Hurst as Kratos. Considering the actor has played physically demanding roles in the past (like Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy), he could be a potential shoo-in for the role.

Now, on top of the God of War recast decision for Kratos, there is a casting listing for season two of the show that says that co-lead Atreus will be recast with a new actor rather than the series staying with Callum Vinson for the part moving forward. The new casting listing wants actors aged 14-17, and Vinson is 12. Sony has previously faced fan backlash for The Last of Us Season Two sticking with Bella Ramsey as Ellie for season two after a notable time skip (when in the game, the character underwent serious physical changes), and it appears they want to avoid repeating history.

While it appears Kratos (for both season one and two) and Atreus (for season two) will be recast, the cast also includes Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri and Danny Woodburn as Brok. The only other cast role rumoured to be recast is that of Thor’s daughter, Thrúd (played by Mina Sundwall), due to the actor’s age.

While it appears Dave Bautista is in talks for the God of War role, Prime Video and Sony have yet to make any official announcements (or confirmations) on where they’re headed with the role, so fans should take any news with a grain of salt until a formal announcement is made.
