The New Pirates Of The Caribbean Movie Confirmed To Be A Reboot

The producer of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Jerry Bruckheimer, has recently stated that the next film will be a reboot with a new cast.

July 9, 2003. The world was introduced to the world of high sea and Captain Jack Sparrow in a film called Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, starring Johnny Depp as the iconic protagonist and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The release of the movie was a huge box office success and received many installments throughout the decades to continue the adventure of Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew on the sea, being featured in the Kingdom Hearts series and a ride at Disney World.

Jerry Bruckheimer has recently shared an update about the future of Pirates of the Caribbean films with ComicBook, mentioning the film will be getting a reboot treatment with The Last of Us creator Craig Mazion working on the story for the reboot alongside Ted Elliot, the original screenwriter for the franchise. The reboot will mark the return of the franchise to hit the big screen, as it has been seven years since the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Last year, the plan for the reboot was put on hold due to the WGA strike at the time, but Mazin has confirmed with the LA Times that Disney bought the scripts for the reboot before the strike. Mazin shared how he thought the story was weird and they wouldn’t buy it, but to his surprise, Disney liked the idea from Craig Mazion and Ted Elliot.

Alongside the news about the Pirates of the Caribbean receiving a reboot, there was, however, a spin-off confirmed to be in the work with Margot Robbie as the female lead in 2020 but was cancelled in 2022, as revealed by Margot Robbie during her interview with Vanity Fair as she mentioned Disney wasn’t interested in the idea for a female-led story.

For now, not much information has been revealed about the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot beyond the script writing and the decision for the project to become a reboot from Jerry Bruckheimer. More details to be released soon as the project moves forward.
