After waiting more than three months, Nintendo treated eager fans to not one, but two back to back Nintendo Directs. This first was specifically dedicated to The Legend of Zelda and there was a lot to see.
Celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, the Direct began with a symphonic rendition of main themes of Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf—an homage to both the Legend of Zelda Symphony Tour and the 25th anniversary soundtrack that came packaged with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. As it continued, Shigeru Miyamoto spoke a bit about the evolution of the series and their commitment to evolving the franchise.

The first big reveal was a few details pertaining to the upcoming The Legend of Zelda live-action film launching April 20th 2027. According to Miyamoto, this film won’t feature a subtitle and will be an original film based on the many stories and ideas from across The Legend of Zelda series. In addition to this, tickets for the Nintendo Museum will also be changed to a The Legend of Zelda motif, alongside a new photo opportunity and the grand opening of the Super Family Restaurant within the museum.
The Direct moved to legendary musician Koji Kondo, who spoke about his work arranging music for the series throughout the years. He also spoke about the inspiration surrounding the Direct’s opening musical performance and announced the Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary concert. The concerts will start across Japan starting in January of 2027, and move to a worldwide tour beginning February of 2027.
The Direct was then passed to Eiji Aonuma who gave gamers their first look at The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Nintendo Switch 2 Remake. According to Aonuma, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has a similar feel to Breath of the Wild, where players can go wherever they want at any time, although the gameplay that was displayed showcased the opening section of the game—Young Link entering the Deku Tree—in a fairly linear sequence. When Aonuma did move out into Hyrule Field, he debuted a world that is both true to the original but captures the size and scope of the modern games.
The game itself showcased an incredible level of detail with improved graphics and textures that bring the classic game up to the standard of a modern RPG like Final Fantasy VII Remake. Aonuma showcased some of the game’s combat that looks like a fairly faithful recreation of the original The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, albeit much faster and more fluid thanks to the Switch 2’s improved processing power. Many of the modern The Legend of Zelda’s Quality of Life features have been brought over to improve the experience.

One new feature that is being implemented in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake utilizes the Nintendo Switch 2’s microphone so players can both hum tunes of the Ocarina songs Link learns throughout his adventure. Fans can purchase a replica Ocarina of Time from the Nintendo Store, or use other instruments to replicate songs, and the game is able to recognize and execute them within the game. The Nintendo Switch app will also feature a section of the “Zelda Notes” dedicated to Ocarina of Time, including a virtual Ocarina users can create songs with.
Alongside the game, two new Amiibo based on Young Link and Young Zelda will launch alongside the game. Nintendo is also releasing a special Nintendo Switch 2 system and Pro Controller. These will launch on October 29th, 2026. themed around the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5th, 2026.
