With gamescom in the rear-view mirror, alongside a plethora of virtual showcases from Sony and KONAMI, gamers were eager to see if Nintendo would grace them with a Direct. Now they are getting not one, but TWO exciting previews of their upcoming games.
Announced via Nintendo’s official “Nintendo Today! App,” Nintendo announced that they would be hosting two Nintendo Directs. The first, slated for September 8th, 2026 at 10 AM (EST), is set to be dedicated to the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda—something gamers were surprised Nintendo didn’t do in February on the actual day. The second, taking place on September 9th, 2026 at 10 AM (EST), will be a standard Nintendo Direct.
According to the Nintendo Today! posting, The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct will last approximately 30 minutes, while the standard Nintendo Direct is set to last 45 minutes. While nothing has been said about what will be shown during these two events, eager Nintendo fans can probably expect to see some details about the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake—which is scheduled to launch in 2026—and maybe a first look at The Legend of Zelda live-action movie, which wrapped filming in April, and is set to premier on May 7th, 2027.
While fans typically prefer the more official Nintendo Directs—with the last one taking place on June 9th, 2026—Nintendo has seemingly figured out a winning strategy of delivering smaller, more focused Directs on their upcoming games. After the surprise Star Fox Direct, Nintendo debuted two, one focusing on Splatoon Raiders and another dedicated to Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave.
Nintendo fans can watch both Nintendo Directs on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel, the Nintendo Website, or via the Nintendo Today! app.
