Four years after the launch of the Move portable smart speaker, Sonos has announced a new iteration, the new Move 2, bringing with it new innovations and improvements.
The Sonos Move line was created back in 2019, which was the first time Sonos listeners could take their favourite audio equipment outside. Now, one of the best-selling companies in speakers has just introduced the new Sonos Move 2. It boasts a newly improved design with sustainability and evolution in mind. Whether you need a good speaker for birthday parties, al fresco dinners, campfire gatherings, tailgate celebrations, or anything in between, the Move 2 is perfect for any occasion.
Move 2 is now stereo, a first for a Sonos portable speaker. In addition to this new architectural level-up, it now has two tweeters to get those crisp vocals while delivering rich stereo sound. The woofer is designed to deliver dynamic bass even in outdoor environments, and it includes three Class D digital amplifiers that are precisely tuned to the speaker’s unique acoustic architecture to power your listening experience. The newest feature on the Move 2 is a new switch on the back of the speaker that allows you to disconnect power to the microphones.

Overall, the speaker’s specs stated it had up to 24 hours of battery life, which was twice the amount of the original Move, which had up to 11 hours of usage. It also has a power-out USB-C slot so you can charge your phone or electronics. It comes with a wireless charging base but also compatible with any other USB-PD power supply. Another important feature of becoming more outdoor-oriented is having a wireless speaker that can survive the elements in the wild. This is why the IP56 water-resistant rating carried over from the original Move, along with improved durability, is said to withstand accidental drops, splashes, rain, dirt, and sun. One of the worst parts about a compact speaker in the outdoors is that its sound amplification can dwindle outdoors. This is why the Move 2 has improved its automatic Trueplay feature that optimizes the sound for its surroundings, so you’ll always get the best listening experience no matter where life takes you.
What does Trueplay mean, and how does it work, you may ask? The Sonos website stated that automatic Trueplay utilizes its special microphone that listens to the sound frequencies heard around the speaker and adapts accordingly. The Trueplay setting adjusts and fine-tunes about every 60 seconds. The Move 2 also has software that users can use to adjust the EQ to find that perfect balance of sound.
In terms of sustainability, even the packaging of the speaker itself is wrapped in a responsibly designed package that uses sustainably sourced content, zero virgin plastic and is curbside recyclable. Connectivity is just as important as the rest of the other features. The Move 2 has the same user interface as the latest Sonos Era products, including a capacitive volume slider for simple control, or use Sonos Voice Control, Amazon Alexa, the Sonos app, Apple AirPlay2 and Bluetooth 5.0 to play, pause, check your battery, and more. It also offers next-gen Wi-Fi 6 for increased reliability.
The Sonos Move 2 is available now in a matte material with multiple colours: Olive, Black and White. It will be sold at $449 USD/£449 GBP/€499 EUR/$799 AUD.
